I had to cut back to two cups a day, it's not impossible just drink a lot of water doing that actually helped me.
Today I cut it to 1 cup. Then again, I was never a heavy coffee drinker.

If you truly like the taste of coffee, drink decaf. I do. I love the taste of coffee.
If it's for caffeine, then yes slowly cutting back will help since caffeine is addictive and causes withdraw symptoms.
