That is true. Right now I'm writing a book in first person, it's actually one of the funniest things ever, at least for me. But third person gives me more opportunities to craft a better story. This is why I love both of them.Varies on the story. Three of mine are first person, the rest are in third person (irony not intentional).
First person is fun especially when you have an unreliable narrator who truly has no clue what's going on.
That is smart---like genius smart. Here's why: You can still have that intimacy with the MC when using 1st POV, but you can craft a better story using 3rd POV for different perspectives not happening with the main character. You can craft a much better story using that policy.First person for the MC and third person for other POVs. This is what I do.
