There’s a web novel on a bunch of sites with that plot starring one Elric Johnson, later called Kahn, titled Hero of Darkness, by CrimsonWolfAuthor?
But I can’t find that here on Scribblehub, nor anything for Erlic Johnson, so, sorry, I can’t help.
