So there is a ton of lesbian transfem content on the site of good quality (and a smattering of other variations and lower quality examples)
I'm writing a transfem x masc story that doesn't actually have any fem love interests... my question is, will people read it?

By the way this is mainly aimed at people who regularly read genderbend stories.

I would vote maybe, it depends on my mood, but that is not an option…

Personally, I will read any romance story as long as it is VERY high quality. Never been explicitly drawn to romance stories. For me, it needs to be one that is so high-quality that I will finish it and be like “Hey, I think that was a romance”, having not even realized it was one in the first place.

In my opinion romance needs something to go with it, like some kind of fantasy or magic or monsters or just SOMETHING actually pressing... otherwise it can kind of feel low stakes most of the time. Not always true, but just usually.

Agreed. Industrial Strength Magic is the one that comes to mind. It has a huge, complex world, and the romance is done beautifully. The comedy is great too!

There has really only been one solely romance story I can think of, with a touch of magic to get things going. And to be honest, it is about being fine keeping things not romantic and toxic romance. It’s an anime called Romantic Killer. A true gem amongst so much trash.

It's about the quality of the characters. And having a good plot helps in the long run.

But All I can say is you don't need GL in a GB story to get an audience.

I really love romance so this just innately sounds appealing to me, gender and different perceptions and understanding of it can add a lot to characterize and expand a relationship and give it more depth.

I would not as I don't like romance in general and this whole premise strikes me as odd

I'm not into GB stories anyway so for me it would be a no anyway. As for how it would perform in general. It would be smaller than the audience for female love interests, but there would probably still be some interest in it just less.

:blob_hide: prepare to get a lot of people saying that a male to female GB with male love interest is icky and gay (female to male GB too). Just ignore the homophobic readers and write what you want.

Girlhood pretty much has that basic premise and it has 500+ readers(me included), so people would definitely read it, yeah.

I would read a pre-op/non-op tomboy x tomgirl story. Bearded lady or actual surgery kinda turned me off after a visit to get orchiectomy instead talked me out of the whole thing. If it would basically be straight but flipped upside-down, sure why not. Two girls, cool with that too. Not keep on yaoi, not keen of sex changes that aren't magical.
