Well, no. Deus ex machina are generally seen as lazy writing whether it was intentional or not. I'm just saying either to let the character(s) die at that moment and change viewpoints or to go back and change things so that you don't need to rely on a deus ex machina in order to save them.

There's a main character who dies in that so many times, and comes back like everything's fine, that it traumatises their companions.
It's a bloomin' good story, though.
