I thought he was acting pretty normal to how he used to in the early days.

He was worse? Yeesh. Dark days. Seems like a lot of people (only four really) were worse back then.
Regardless of how he once was, thought I'd ask. It's hard to not dislike him for these off-color jokes. So maybe something was off today for him.
