Ah, i was mad because your post said "roll a d20 and add the relevant ability modifier". But you didn't tell us what the ability modifier was. In regular dnd, an 8 in- say Charisma- would result in a -1 to charisma checks. That's obviously not good for your game, because 8 is the Average for player stats.

Later I noticed the d20 + the stat itself(no modifer).

I'm still mad though.
