What goes around, comes around.
If you eat too much, you become ... round.

A friend in deed is a friend indeed.
You don't have to be friends to help.
You don't have to help to be friends.

philosophy: tell me who your friends are and i'll tell you who you are.
humor: tell me who your friends are and i'll tell you who they are.
threat: tell me who your friends are and i'll tell them who you are.

I always thought the phrase was, 'A friend in need is a friend indeed.'

Anyway, I see a good friend as someone who is willing to give constructive criticism over things when the situation requires it. A bad friend is someone who blindly supports without thinking if it's beneficial to the mental/physical health/well-being of the other person.
They're both friends, though.

Yes, that's the original user-friendly version. Decades ago, we adjusted it to be about giving instead of taking. Pun bonus, too.

"Officer, we have a give-and-take relationship. You give. We take," he sneered.

A bad friend can lead to a BAD END.
A good friend can also lead to a BAD END.

Moral: there is none.
Morale: depends on the mood.
