They do. The moment they become successful, they leave usually. :blob_hide: They don't care much for the rest of us.

Mmm, but Assu-hime, ForestDweller, Cutepearl, and others constantly come to the forums...

:blob_hmm:

What constitutes "popular", though?

(I might misunderstand the word :blob_sweat:).

I feel like popular is these stories with a million views and several thousand readers
I'm here with 30k views and 500 readers
If I had a million views I would be so anxious on the forums

........

:blob_blank:

If that is popular.

And you are therefore not popular.

Then where does it put people like myself.

Honestly, I'm more jealous of those writers who write little but they can get more views than me. It's natural for a long story to gain a lot of views over time. What matters more is the views per chapter/words ratio.

True, :blob_frown: but if you look at most of them -- the majority carry their reader bases from the previous works OR sites. Even if you don't see it, a lot of SH writers come over from somewhere else where they have already established a fanbase.

A lot of the underlying mechanics of popularity are invisible to a bystander.

Lastly, being popular is good if it's natural to what you want to write. If you solely want views -- analyze the patterns of more "successful" novels. :blob_evil:

:blob_aww: I promise you that if you study the first chappies of the selected group (people without visible prior fanbases, amassing >100 readers in the 1st day) -- you will see a pattern form in the way they write/choose premises. :blob_salute:
