I was wondering what those who are willing to vote would think since I saw this in another thread. I feel that they are, because sexuality now encompasses gender identity as well.

So I will vote yes in this poll.
Feel free to disagree, not post and just vote...

Or feel free to vote.
I thought it was an interesting topic when it came to tags on stories.

No.

You can write romance, love stories, identity crisis-fueled introspective monologues, and interdimensional and interspecies relationships without detailing how characters put their things/tentacles/soul-strings/4-dimensional reproductive organs into holes or any kind of holes or simply rub their holey-holes together or swordfight in the shower, etc. whatever rocks your boat.

Sex is sex.

All of those tags can be written without explicit sexuality or any sexual intent behind them at all. It only depends on the author and how horny he/she is.

The Biology is Sexual, The appearance, the social stuff, and others are not.

So the moment you show a dick or a vag, then yeah, it's sexual.

Heck I'd even argue, some steamy hand holding and kissing isn't sexual. It's softcore yes, but it's not something we only do in our bedrooms

It depends what you mean by sexual in nature. I'd say that they all heavily suggest sexual content, but it's not like they need to contain it; that's what the smut and adult tags are for.

A good example would be The Reincarnation of Alysara, which is a gender bender, but has zero sex scenes across over 200 chapters. Granted that is a rarity on SmutHub, but there are many other stories, especially romances, that have no sexual content at all.

Although frankly, when I see girl's love or romance, I expect there at the very least to be some suggestive scenes, which pretty much answers the question if it's considered sexual in nature...

Well, first BL and GL are just a special type of romance. And romance is not the same as smut : you can write a perfectly good love story without any sexual scenes or even undertones. However you can of course easily combine both.
For Harem it can be either multiples love interests, in witch case it is romance, or multiple sexual partners, in witch case it is obviously sexual in nature. Most of the times it is both or only the latter.
As for gender bender, it is not sexual in nature, it either serve no purpose (which is weird but a lot of authors just genderbend their character and do nothing with it) or serve to create identity questionings, especially in trans stories. But since it plays with gender identity, it can also leads to interesting developments in romantic or sexual relationships

If they're not fucking, or the tomfoolery involved with it and it's just sweet, romantic, or more 'fade to black' with a very slight amount of making it so 'adults' know what's going on, then it's not sexual.

Any form of build-up, kisses that go a little too 'heavy', and certain actions will make it sexual, it's about finding what you want as an author.
Like West Dragon said, some people genderbend their characters for no reason, and nothing happens, and it's really just to grab attention to stories. I've seen quite a few stories with 'He was once a man, now he's a girl' and then it never be touched upon in the actual book at all, not even a single moment where the character's like 'man I wish I had nuts to scratch again.'

yes and no. the tags themselves are not sexual, though on here they are exclusively used to denote a sexual fantasy. maybe it's not graphic, but it's definitely sexual in nature. the GB tag is not used to explore different social structures, behavior, thinking patterns, etc. of the other sex. it's a sexual fantasy targeted towards a specific audience. Harem is exclusively used to indicate that the main character has multiple lovers, again, purely a sexual fantasy. romance tag here is honestly just filler.

What do you mean 'sexual in nature' and what purpose do you want to fulfill with its sortal essence?

Those tags may not be considered of sexual nature here on scribblehub but they are in other sites like Royal road from example.

Seen over 300 different anime. I've seen plenty with those tags peppered throughout. And guess what? No sex in most of them. There's plenty of fanservice that's sexual tho.

So no, those tags aren't inherently sexual. But there's a level of fanservice in anime in general that could make people think they were if they aren't vets of JP media.

Just to clarify, how someone interprets a tag is subjective.

Reason I feel they’re all sexual in nature is because it implies the main character or characters will only have sex with a specific group. Even if sex isn’t in the story, the fact it’s romantic is sexual.

GB is sexual in my opinion because the main character is thinking about how their sexual organs have changed in parts of the story and gives the reader a fantasy in that.

Again, it’s only an opinion.
I don’t see sexuality as needing to be ‘fan service’ or ‘smut’.

Yes

Because GL, BL, and Gender Bender is something "sexual".

sexual (adjective)

1) of, relating to, or associated with sex or the sexes, sexual differentiation, or sexual conflict

****

It clear that the "Sexual" I'm talking about is not "sexual activity" or "sexual intercourse". Lol

GL and BL already means sexual attraction with the same sexual gender.

While Gender Bender can't be more sexual, since it's changing sexual identity with another.
