I've found two real good novels, and I want to rate it 5 stars, but it seems rating doesn't do anything

I think they made some changes, unlike before that you can easily rate stars. It was changed maybe because some people just rate it without actually reading it, so if you didn't have it in your reading list then you can't rate it

thank you, yes it really needs to be in the reading list "You cannot rate this without adding it to your reading list."
