We talked about the showing of darker themes in kid shows.

Question: What is your take on dark themes in stories for kids? Where is the line for you? (I speak of themes like death violence's and how you portray them.)

I think, for the most part it's not uncommon to find darker elements in children shows, it depends on the context and how well they are incorporate in the over all story.

I think it's good and makes a safe space for the children to feel those emotions
And also, it's good for the adults watching and when you grow up to rewatch.

A good example is Avatar.
It's made for children but there's a lot of darkness in it, I mean, they're literally in a world war.
Another one, but that I've only heard about, is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
I've seen people say that there's a lot of cool episodes there.

If you're writing for children, I recommend trying to get into those dark topics. Just don't go overboard and make heads explode or the character get sexual assaulted, though I guess if you're in the industry that would never be approved.
