I suppose it progresses the plot, sets the characters and all. Could use some more details and descriptions for immersion. Not really sure on the dialogue, maybe you could make it sound a bit more natural? That and I suppose showing some actions happening would be alright.

Try not to worry about the word count and write as much as possible.
