The Glossary is a great feature, especially for larger, complex works.

But with a majority of stories/authors never using it, a new user might click on it a few times, get tired of seeing the "no glossary available" and never click it again.

It should be relatively simple to hide the glossary link by default, and only reveal it for clicking if the author added something there.

But then how else would people know they can gloss over a work?

Are you worried about new users trashing your work, or new users never checking any glossaries ever again?

People can choose to put it in if they want to. Some actually for some reason make the glossaries (characters at least) into a chapter. Although as a reader I do find it a bit sad that big stories don't have it. Especially the long ones, which are prone to readers forgetting certain things but don't want to bother reading the whole thing again.
