I literally just read the TVTropes entry for this, and considering the Trope namer came out in 2002, it was literally ahead of its time. That doesn't preclude it from being stupid, though.

It's stupid, but calculated stupidity. It's made razor sharp to be entertaining as all hell. I feel like most of its detractors would be the kind of authors to write intricate and detailed worlds only for the work to amount to a really big field of rice paddies.
