No, no, odachi are not overcompensation. In fact, they are they only sensible weapons in a real combat environment. Have you ever thought about using a katana mounted? No, katana are no combat weapons. They are way too short for anything but ritual duels and being a side weapon.

Just cos you don't fit the stereotype of your heritage doesn't mean you're sacrilegious, it just means you have an opinion that differs from what's considered the stereotype.
I'm pretty sure there are tons of Brits who absolutely hate tea and love coffee - that doesn't make them any less British, though.
