Hello, fellow dark Balkan subject. :)
I found this topic by chance. As as person who has struggled with excessive weight in the past - and I have still have some ways to go - I wish you all the best in your quest!
And because moral support is cheap (though useful!), here are some things that have helped me in regulating weight and the habits that surrounds it:
#. Drink plenty of water. This might sound counterintuitive, but your body needs plenty of hydration, all the time. (Especially if you're actively working out.) Any time you feel hungry, drink a full or a half-full glass of water, then wait 20-30min. If you're still hungry, go ahead and eat. If the hunger pangs lessen or subside, you've actually been thirsty, not hungry. (Unless you train yourself to recognize it, you can mix those two signals - hunger and thirst - very easily.)
#. If you have strong desire to chew something, buy a cabbage head from the grocery store. Peel & eat it raw; it's kinda like ultra-green chips. The taste might not be great (at first), but cabbage is relatively rich in Vitamin C (always good to have) and consists primary of fibers, which help clean the intestines. Because (I assume) you won't able to down a whole cabbage head in a single go, store it in the fridge between munchings. A single head, depending on size, should last you for a few days.
#. Cut dramatically on the carbohydrates (breads, spaghetti, anything with a lot of starch and flour). Sweets aren't the only culprit in gaining weight; those other carbs still make your blood sugar spike dramatically, since all carbs turn into glucose + water when broken down biochemically in the body, same as sugars. Yes, sugar is worse, but glucose is still glucose, no matter how you get it, and that makes you hungry all the time from the high insulin levels that come with the spikes.
#. Fats, despite popular opinion, are not a problem when combating weight. Unless you eat a whole stick of pure butter each morning, they simply don't present as much as a problem that carbs do. So you don't have to be strict about them.
#. If the urge becomes IRRESISTIBLE, consider drinking a soft drink with stevia sweetener. Stevia is a natural, plant-based sweetener that has almost no absorption from the human metabolism. In Bulgaria, there's a popular stevia drink called "Stream Life" that's available in most stores:

However, consider this the nuclear option. It might make you want ever sweeter things to eat afterwards. Or you might not like the taste of stevia - it took me a long time before I got used to it.
#. Keep doing your exercises! As the Hacker from
Paradise Cracked quips in-game in the Bulgarian dub: "Животът е движение!" :)
And finally, take all advice with a grain of salt. If I learned anything in my 15-something odyssey of getting fit & healthy, it's that each person's individual metabolism and endocrine system is unique (to a varying extent), and thus each diet/fitness program should be custom-tailored to its respective practitioner.
Once again, best of luck! You can do it. :)
