Flash fiction is a fictional work of extreme brevity that still offers character and plot development.
It can be anywhere from around 100 words to at most 1,000 words long.
It can be anywhere from around 100 words to at most 1,000 words long.
Writing game for a writing forum! Write a piece of flash fiction about the username of the person above you.
Rules, I guess:
- Only the username is the prompt. It should not be a story about the user themselves, so if they're someone you're familiar with, do not let your knowledge of them influence the fiction. You're just using the username as an inspiration.
- The prompt can be interpreted literally (eg. if the username is "fish barrel", it could be a story about an actual barrel of fish) or thematically (a "fish barrel" could be interpreted as a kind of cage, holding a creature in an environment unnatural to it, or the concept of "shooting fish in a barrel", etc.). The point is to stretch your imagination. If the username is an actual name, you can use it as the name of a character in the story, but again, it cannot be a story representation of the user themselves.
- Cannot be more than 1k words. User a word checker, there are free ones online.
- The point is brevity; to write a complete piece of fiction in as small a space as possible, so try to aim low in word count. Imagine it's like the story version of golf: you win based on a lower "score", not higher.
- If someone else posts a story for the user above before you get a chance to post yours (ie. you're both writing at the same time and they just got it out quicker), tough titties. Time to start over.
- (I don't foresee this being a problem buuuuuut~) Please don't post more than once a day. Otherwise you can post as much as you want in the thread.
