How interesting is this premise?

Imagine this: an alternate, medieval/modern earth, where every intelligent species gains a system from birth, which shows their skills, special ‘gifts’ from higher beings, stats, etc. Now, one day, our main character is born. He just so happens to have been born with 2 rare ‘gifts’ known as [Jack of All Genres] and [Arbiter of Light]. What they do is this:

Jack of Every All Genres: two years, he’s forced to spin a wheel for a genre, and it changes how the world is perceived by others, including him, unless they can resist it through a skill of some sort.

There’s one thing, however. The wheel seems to be filled with mostly bad options.. And the twisted god who gave him this skill seems to nudge him towards the path of evil, with more ‘gifts’…

Arbiter of Light:
He is very talented with magic related to light, and that’ll be related to a lot of things. The higher being who gave him this seems to send him cryptic messages. The reason why they’re so cryptic? It may be related to a certain other god.

Seems interesting as a premise but I feel like it will just turn into a generic litrpg due to the system. Also, te reality/perception shifting rule seems like it could have been OP but is heavily nerfed by the two year limit and the fact that it effects himself so it just makes the characters very underpowered if there are other rare skills.

I’ve added a bit more, and it’s not necessarily OP due to how it doesn’t gift him with absurd talent in x, and other characters will be balanced enough to not have MC be the most OP person in a matter of months/years.

And if we’re talking levels and fights seeming predictable(higher level = insta-win), it’s seen as something you don’t necessarily share + stat allocations differ from person to person

Not a fan of Jack of all Genres. That's pretty much a mind control effect that affects the entire planet on a fundamental level. That's a bit much. Not to mention its basically a curse, not a skill or gift.

Let alone that, if you ever get the point mid story where there's a "spin" on the genre wheel, you basically will have the character forcefully undergo a mind shift, which can be annoying to both readers and possibly the writer by virtue of, well, basically having EVERYONE a new set of impulses they have to deal with and a loss of old ones. World resets are treated with a lot of skeptisicm by people for good reason

It depends on how it's written of course, but the idea does honestly seem generic.

Go play the long dark.

I recommend it to any writer for no game better gives you that feeling of isolation. To write a good story, you need a challenge. It sounds like you haven't learned the basics.

Man alone trying not to die by freezing to death. Or starve. Or be killed by wolves driven mad by a global disaster. Or give up after a moose stomped him and he has a broken rib.

Ever break a rib? Holy fuck even with modern medicine it is a pain one cannot explain in words.

We want conflict. We want stakes. Stakes we can understand. Stakes we can sympathize with. We want heroes. We want sacrifice. We want justice and for those who have suffered to be rewarded for faith even when everyone else has given up.

Learn the basics. Do a basic story. Man in shitty situation with nothing trying to survive. Then add something new. Then add your flavors of new.

Your idea is all seasoning, no meat.

Another mc special gets more skills than others. Its not bad, spin the wheel is it every two years? That is more interesting. Not so much about the Arbiter of Light.
