Hm... It would be a strange game, I think? It's a romance but it's set in a fantasy world, so I guess the romance would become a background/overarching plot if it was a game and the main game would have to focus on all the bits that I skimmed over.

So... A fantasy exploration game?
I feel like the first half, in human society, would be a lot of time-based and stressful social missions where the game gets progressively harder the more often that you fail. Side quests would probably rely on hiding from characters while you work as well.

And the second half would be a really peaceful game where you don't have to hide or sneak or have anywhere blocked off. It would focus on completing side quests to advance the game towards a particular type of ending, like gardening minigames and the like, and just learning more about the setting and its characters.

My story which I haven't written is a supernatural urban fantasy, so it would probably be a Persona-esque somewhat open world RPG where you go around hunting ghosts. The hardest part of it would be maneuvering through social interactions and sitting through the incessant dialogue.
I'm getting Neptunia flashbacks from this... I'm pretty sure of the Neptunia cutscenes lasted around 1h... It was pretty fun, but dear God, it was so time consuming! >.<
TFW your story is literally a video game (MMO) story and then you get asked to hypothetically name it's genre if it were an actual video game... :sweating_profusely: The answer should be pretty apparent.

Slice-of-life farming sim a la Harvest Moon.
*rolls laughing* Perfect! XD
Well since the system in my story is based on another story‘s system that in-universe could be use for an MMOJRPG I would say the game would be something like that. Open world and maybe some MMOJRPG mechanic thrown in. Also gaining more skills now with level ups but continuous use (Which isn’t exactly popular or fun for the most part). The difficultly will be varied with switching perspective and such, one would overpowered next to every encounter story or otherwise except the final boss (obviously) and extra boss (that I would make ludicrously hard since she wasn’t suppose to fight them in-story in the first place), other would start way weaker but it wouldn’t be too hard.
I can confirm that I dislike learning new skills by increasing the level of other skills! I'd much rather buy skills or get new ones with levels! >.<

That certainly feels like a very unique game alright! XD

Though completely changing the core gameplay midway through might turn people off, I'm unsure if it would sell well... >.>

Good thing this is all theoretical though! \(^^)/

... one of my stories actually is a game. Except it's only half done, and I've since given up on finishing it.

It's RPG maker VX Ace, and requires the RTP

I should probably note that it's an adult game, but probably doesn't deserve to be called porn, due to lack of pictures, and lack of descriptive text.
Oh, a pity that you gave up on it...

Been ages since I last played anything in RPG Maker... Brings back memories~

I mean, if Permanight was a game, I'd like to think it would be pretty hard - but if Isekai Inc were a game, it'd probably be like super easy and chill. I feel like Permanight, with its usually party-focused approach, whereas my other one would probably just end up being closer to a visual novel than a game, but idk

I haven't published nor finished any stories, but most of my drafts are isekai stories with some litrpg features... still... a bit hard to imagine them as real rpg games... but all or most might fall under "eroge" label or some such...
