Is there anything you have regretted writing?

This can be for any reason, as for me a few months ago I started writing a web novel called Wish of the Cipher on here sort of regret it as it was only meant as a means to improve my writing over time for other stories I wanted to write. I never really planned to finish it like I said it was more for practicing my grammar and writing.

It's pretty much the only thing I'm known for on this website that people are expecting chapters more regularly. It's even gotten to the point where I'm considering just removing my other stories because of the lack of interest in them.

Overall I'm happy that my first story got a good following, but it's just annoying to know that people are only interested in seeing more of that from me.

So now it's your turn, is there anything you've regretted writing over the years? Just interested to see people's reasons for this.

Not really. I started seriously and I will end things seriously. So my reader base is also structured this way and have little regrets.

As for you, I suspect you changed genre and tone of the story? Otherwise, I see no reason why you should have less success with your new stories.

It's less about wanting similar success with my other stories as that's nearly impossible in most circumstances. I guess it's just that I didn't have the passion to write my popular story compared to others, but now that it is popular I feel like I'm obligated to see it through to the end.

Then again you could say it's partly my fault because I have so many ideas I want to write that I've bogged myself down with them making it harder to write multiple stories.

I basically regret writing entirely. I just write due to being easier than making comics as a kid and a classmate recommended me to a site to try out writing.

New, inexperience and totally unpopular, i dreamed that i could at least let my story be recognizable but after a month, i felt sad that i couldn't gain traction and basically wanted to quit but determination wanted me to continue more and eventually, i ended up here out of my own mistake and now i regret writing. I wanted to basically play games and sleep but i sometimes write stories which is kinda tiring for me now.

There was this series that I was writing with someone around half a decade ago. Midway through, got burnt out. We just abandoned it altogether.

But we set up so many things for the final arcs already and such, so what the final product ended up is something like an anime that gets no season 2 but with the "big" plot unresolved.

At least we ended it at a spot with quite a bit of closure.

From what I understood, you are happy that your prototype has such success while your more elaborate versions apparently. I might be wrong, but that is at least what I understood from your initial post.

So I fail to see what motivation has to do with this. I think this has more to do with pride and self-esteem, but that is just my assumption.

Don't know about pride, but I do agree with it relating to self-esteem when it comes to me writing other stories.

I am happy that my prototype story got traction then again you could just that it was down to a lucky combination of genres and tags associated with the story giving it more success.

I had the same exact problem as you OP but I actually regret writing the first story I posted because it was so esoteric and only served as an example of what not to do when writing a story for the first time. I generally preferred that story but I ended up abandoning it for the current story I'm writing since it is easier to write and overall has a much better chance of getting readers on genre alone. It'll come back maybe when I actually know how I want it to be written.

I have not posted anything here other than that one single shit as well as some weird porn that I wrote in the past.

The only regret I ever have is probably not posting them, because ffs I am seeing a bunch of people having similar or even same ideas and it kind of made me feel like a fool for thinking "I have a great idea!"

I somewhat regret having written smut, and I certainly enjoy writing it less than regular fantasy.

There was a story I wrote called "flight of the Princess Sage" I tried writing. I was very interested in the project and invested a lot of attention (like, months of pondering and obsessing over) into writing it but... I was a tad to hasty and over ambitious when writing it, trying to stuff too much, so much so that I can barely remember what went where by now, into a single story... In the end I just gave up and thought of rewriting it someday, with a lot of lore being split into other stories, a lot of conflicting elements still being untangled, but even now I am still not sure what parts exactly I want to put in there
It was a huge mess, as far as anything was concerned

Ehh... Not really, but I do have works that I will never show the public. Though sometimes those works will be referenced in my newer stuff.

That before I got here, I wrote a FFXV/ Final Fantasy 15 fanfic on Wattpad. It has over 100k words and a second volume, looking back at it now... I should have started my original story earlier than writing that cringy out of character crap
