Someone who mentally can't form emotional attachments may seek immortality just because there are no downsides. If there was no personal hell of seeing all your friends die there are many people who would likely become immortal for no other reason than "why not." Not everybody thinks living forever would be a hell and it isn't like everyone would become the stereotypical "History is just the same story with different characters and now I'm bored."

Well, what is the downsides of immortality? If it means that you still have to poop, then the upsides would be anything as well. If it's literally free or easy to acquire, why not?
If you mean having a great downside, like being a lich means losing your human desires or losing your body... Or being an immortal in exchange for eternal servitude to the deity, there must be a greater upside. It's not necessarily a desire to everyone but a great desire to that character, to the point that he won't mind the downside.
As an example, character A dealt with the devil, exchanging endless lives to be an eternal king. The bored devil tricked him by automatically transferring character A to his son's body, becoming an eternal king. He will also die repeatedly... Dying is an extremely process... At least he became an eternal king!
Why does that sound familiar? Ah, i see, you're giving spoilers without stating the name of the show.
Ok, i'll play along.

There is no such thing as true immortality. Entropy cannot be reversed and one day all things shall cease to exist.

That's pretty much just semantics though. From a human perspective, even if you lived just long enough to see the end of everything, you'd be immortal. Assuming you didn't find a way to stop it with your literal millennia of knowledge gathering...

Fear of death, or having some bigger goal are the most common reasons... They can often go together.

Not having any loved ones also helps, as one of the biggest downsides of immortality, is seeing the people you love die... Alternatively, being close to other immortals might make you want to be an immortal too in order to stay close to them as the eons pass... Or even, seeing an extremely lonely immortal, and wanting to keep them company for eternity, so that they no longer need to stay alone. It can be a pretty interesting romance setting.
