I only allow myself to work on 1-2 projects at a time (one long one, and I'm allowed to take breaks for one short story or fanfic at a time). If I allow more, I jump from cool idea to cool idea and never finish anything. By not being allowed to start a project until my current one is done, 'I have the best idea, let's do it!' motivation gets transmuted into 'let's finish the current project so I can write that cool idea!' energy. And the cool idea, given time to stew, is better thought out by the time I write it.
