It depends on the type of feeling you're going for too. Some people like reading novels that trip up the reader all the time. If that's what your readers are there for then go ahead. If you usually explain things well and your readers generally have a safe experience, then make sure it isn't glaring and they can expect most of the changes they'll see after the skip. If the skip feels like it matches with your story then do it. I also agree with skipping tedious scenes, if you're unsure what's unnatural or tedious in you novel, then find your least favorited posting. Go through it and see if it has anything out of your ordinary.

It all depends on the pace of your story. A large majority of authors skip when their characters go to the bathroom or sleep. I say write all you want, let it sit untouched for a month or more, and then go back and drop what you find boring during the editing process.
