What are the biggest character traits(usually mc) that you despise the most

Well for me, it would be a self centered mc. The name speaks for itself... a main character who does not know the fundamentals of "thinking" and instead thinks that everything they currently do and see is the absolute right whilst thinking everyone else's opinion is null. This just brings nothing but frustration in my eyes tbh and it's usually extremely hard to even endure 3-4 chaps of these kinds of mcs without wanting to drop the novel with a 1-2 star rating.


Oh yeah these types of traits is usually found in 99.5% of most cultivation/murim stories(I wonder why definitely not because of the courting death cliche)

Dense/dumb MC. I understand why authors make their MC's this way, but it's still annoying.

A dumb MC can be fun to read, but most of the authors can't pull enough braincells to work for it to be fun.

Cocky, doormats, know it all's who only survived because of plot armor, and harem seeking.

The harem seeking is really common here. I try them every now and then, but they all suck. Every time a woman is added, they get sidelined character wise. No more growth of character happens, they just live for the MC. And the smut is terrible. It always reads like the authors are some incel virgins who watched too much porn and hentai. Oh God the cringe hentai talk.

when are the true villanous mcs coming back man? those that are scheming and create grand plans, have grander goals than just recruiting women to their harem, and have such phylosphy that you think they're kind of right sometimes? i'm so tired of this shit, villains also need their archnemesis! but these stories never have them, isntead of adding the "villain" word to your novel just put "i'm an asshole that gets away with everything i do!"

Depends on the genre. Realistic romance or drama? Yes, it would make more sense to focus on awkward first times.

But self indulgent smut isn't typically known for its realism. Lol.

Blank slate protagonists. Primarily isekai ones that simply do not have a personality when they're sent over. No strong morals or convictions, no background history to guide what they do, little to no opinions other than basic human decency (and sometimes even that is absent). They go with the flow and hardly, if ever, push back.

Sometimes, this is used as a stand-in for the reader to self-insert. I usually find it rather hollow.

The MC goes into a sect, hides his super talent and IQ, acts weak all the time, becomes the rug that everyone steps on while taking up a body-changing technique, and becomes the OP superhero of the realm, everyone fawning over him, but he says nothing and still act as the bum in the sect.

Then he creates multiple clones that he sends out into the world, and they all have different identities, make connections, bla bla bla, maybe even rebel against the original in a retarded sub-plot, while the MC is still hiding away, cosplaying as a hive mind.

It is the usual trope in every xianxia story; just pick one randomly. It is one of the reasons that made me write my own.
