I make magic a supernatural thing in the lovecraftian sense. It is above nature. It is scary, dangerous, exciting. It will drive you insane, turn you into a fanatic, sap the meaning out of your existence, become the meaning of your existence, is your existence.
In other words,
Magic knows the gate. Magic is the gate. Magic is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in magic. It knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. It knows where They have trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread.

I used a mix of mythology to craft my magic systems. There are three that are used. You have magic that is enhanced by a supernatural being such as the Fae, magic that is utilized using mathematics and theoretical physics, and then there's magic passed through bloodlines. Each have different strengths and weaknesses. Plus, they function differently depending on where in the world you are. Cultures affect the styles and capabilities depending on their needs and wants.

I'm very simplistic with magic usually.

I make it so that being able to use magic is kinda rare, and that each person (among the people that can use magic) has different affinities for different types of magic. Ah, and magic consumes mana, which people naturally generate.

... And that's it. I don't worry too much on the details, because it's not particularly important to my novel. I like having a very loose system without many rules attached to it, because I can then make different types of magic as my narrative needs it.

Do take note though, that I do things like this because magic is not the focus of my narrative, it's just small a part of it. An action story with a heavy focus on battles between warriors and mages probably needs a more robust system... I don't write this kind of thing though. I only write romance and slice of life, so my stories just don't have any real need of a carefully planned magic system... Things work out well enough to me for as long as my character interactions are interesting~

Write your magic in the way that best suits the story you want to tell I'd say~

as for me i made it so everyone have a type of it but not every one can awake it usually it take a lot of money for a commoner to acquire it, and made a lot of types of magic it might seem endless but it depends on the mentality and the character of the person. also getting to use some kinds of magic can twist the user personality or even break them, my world depend on vocations and the spells depends on the interactions of a character, as for the rest is left for the character creativity, the lv systems depends on the leveling up of the spells as every 5 lvs make it tier 2 and then 10 levels for tier 3 and so on i thought using a level system can make you stuck as you cannot give high level characters a low power spell so i made it like this to show the effort you need to do

I divided it based on whose providence it is. Anyone who want to use specific types of magic must have the blessings of their respective patron deity or it won't work. For example, if your patron deity is Tony, you'll be able to transfer your stories to your other account.

Quite abundant. Abundant enough that those without magic are considered sub-human. Each magic type only has a single spell. The majority of people have about five magic types.

Up the ass. Everyone, everywhere, all the time. The balancing is due to complexity vs practicality. So, even if someone can become a demigod with enough weed-whacking, more practical low-level magic is available.

Take for example common folk. They dumb as fuck and competitive against their peers. If they want to wait to get an nth level/tier/blessing magic to sculpt statues for great paying work for the state or church, they could. In the meantime, the others around them might just take basic whittling magic and improved it ten times over by the time the other gets their sculpting. They'll be making money in the short term while the sculptor does their best art student impression for a few years. No true guarantee that they'll get some specialist magic along the way. Hell. Maybe they aren't even that compatible to be a great sculptor but keep getting perks related to bootlicking.

The five chapters I have go off the following system. Everything has it's own energy. By attuning to a specific basalt rock you can use magic related to that rock. By widening your attunement you can use basalt magic, rock magic, earth magic, etc. Every human starts with a type of improperly attuned qi, psi, and spirit. Trying to use energy that is not attuned makes the body reject it. Depending on the distance to your attunement you may still use it. However, widening attunement is dangerous, uncertain, and not well known. Deepening attunement is (relatively) easy and explored.
