I think the castle one is more indicative of the story (and thus objectively the better cover) but the tree person is so out there that it makes me want to click just to figure out the context.

for me personally: the tree-face picture is ok; but I hold issue with the text above it, and that it is all in same-ish font and font-size

Castle one looks better and seems to fit the atmosphere you're trying to describe more than the other one.

Second one isn't bad if you had maybe just made the font of the name smaller, placed the picture underneath, then put the title in a bigger font size below the picture. Or the complete opposite of that with the title first, picture second, and name last.
