No, I don't have lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerant people lack the enzyme lactase to break down and digest the carbohydrate lactose. I am actually allergic to milk proteins and thus should never consume milk products. However, I still consume milk products ... at least until I can no longer handle the backlash.
I only found out I was allergic to milk about a year ago. My doctor had me do a general allergy test and when the results came back I was quite surprised.
Doctor: "You are highly allergic to milk."
Yorda: "Oh ... the many years of my life consuming large quantities of Canadian dairy products ..."
Doctor Fact: As people age they gain new allergies, so an allergy test every few years is prudent.
