Only when I want to change my mood, or the tempo of the story. Some times you just need a quite place to right.

I don't listen when I'm writing the first draft, but I do listen when I'm editing. I feel there are different functions in the brain between creatively writing something for the first time and editing, which require a different environment for me to perform efficiently.

Yes, though what I listen too and what era of music it is depends entirely on the scene I'm working on.

Listening to music keeps the third of my brain not occupied by writing or coding distracted so it doesn't distract the rest of me. If I really need to contemplate, I'm best off lounging on the couch with pen and paper instead of using my computer.

This is my third 'music thread', and yes, I do listen to music while typing.

Depends on the mood, or the scene. If it's a battle scene, or I wanted to stay focused, I listen to rock especially Sabaton (I also get to come up with ideas for the scenes I wanted).

If I just want to spit out words for first draft, I listen to lo-fi.

If I want some diversion from the background noise (since I live with my parents), I go for anime music or OPM.
