Those 11k works are 4 times lower than RR
Ps: just to nail down the topic i just posted a new chapter... With the R18 warning...
My point is that the idea of there being more smut than non-smut here is not accurate. Even taking all stories with the sc warning, we're close to half and half, but still leaning toward non-smut. And yes, the numbers may be off due to mislabeling. I've seen stories that should have the sc warning that don't. I've seen stories with the smut genre but not the sc warning, to which I squint my eyes and say "huh?" But I've seen much less of that than accurate labeling. Most people who write smut want people to know it.
I would like to ask those looking for non-smut and think there's a lack of it - when you do find something you like, how much do you engage with it? I ask because as a smut writer myself (well, a romance writer who doesn't drop the curtain on the intimate scenes) I find that my spicy chapters get more reader engagement, and it's often crickets on the other chapters between. So I wonder if pg stories are getting much reader engagement at all (does it happen for chapters with whatever makes your genre exciting? Fight scenes? MC levels up? Grows a tail? IDK what you litrpg kids are into, I'm spitballing.)
Low reader engagement is really depressing for authors, and could be responsible for all the dropped stories, indefinite hiatuses, and authors deciding to try smut thinking it will get more engagement, and idk if readers understand the power they have to keep stories going. I can only advise you to get active as readers. Comment - you don't have to write a sonnet, "Thanks for the chapter" or just an emoji are better than nothing. (I've historically been bad at commenting myself, and I'm trying to do better.) Hit that favorite button. I know that's supposed to work differently here on SH than votes or likes on other sites, but honestly that's the only way I know for sure that people are reading sometimes.
The reader/ author relationship is a two-way street. Encourage the authors writing what you like, and you'll have more of what you like to read.
(Also, you guys don't know how good you have it here. SH isn't like a lot of other sites that are ALL werewolf smut ALL the time. I love urban fantasy and I'm not opposed to the occasional werewolf, but 10,000 of them is excessive.)
