The heroes shouldn't be invited

The Great Evil has been defeated against all odds by the Heroes.

The people can now celebrate their victory, and a festival is organized by the relieved Reasonable Authority Figure.

The only thing is that the Reasonable Authority Figure has a very good reason to not invite the Heroes to the celebration.

What is that reason?

Because they got sent back home, because they immediately retired, because they died, because they were imprisoned/enslaved, because the last time and no one wants a repeat of that, because they’re on the moon and can’t get back, because they ascended to godhood, etc.

Heroes smoke cannabis and fill every room with smoke wherever they are. Since ordinary people are too weak to bear so much THC, political figures avoid inviting heroes to every event with common people in the assembly to avoid collateral damage.

The knight that killed the dragon eventually became the new dragon.
Diablo 1&2, right?

additionally, to OP's question, the hero's accidentally killed the great evil, and they are actually chaotic evil and wreaked hell on the town leading up to the "fight". or they were greedy, and used the "we're great heroes, you gotta give us free stuff" excuse, so, while people are grateful, they aren't overly fond of them.

The Heroes are extremely afraid of ghosts. They throw out attacks comparable to nukes whenever they are scared. The issue is that force ghosts always come and point out how cliche endings like this are.

The heroes are smut protags with the Ascendant Transcendent Genderbend Sex System which automatically genderbends all characters within a 69 meter radius and makes them unbearably horny.

Edit: Also it's a LitRPG setting where the protags level up through sex.

Edit 2: And they're isekai'd from another world which gives them knowledge of making infinite sex toys within a femtosecond.

The heroes summoned were not a bunch of attractive teenagers that saved the day through quirky isekai shenanigans, but rather a bunch of sadistic hellraiser-esque monsters that brought a cruel retribution to the big evil and his underlings.

The authority figure is afraid the heroes appearances and their enthusiasm for carnage on what they consider to be 'The Wicked' and fears what repercussions might fall on his image if people find out who -- if not what -- the heroes actually are.

Due to the demonic miasma, heroes got corrupted and were banished by the goddess into the abyss, who knew it will happen, perpetrating the cycle yet again
