How about the pen? It is said that it's mightier than the sword, and there's no story, if there's no pen. I think it's the most overused 'weapon'...from the ancient to modern times. 😅

Unless you're using a phone or pc.

But seriously, I'd go for the sword.

I was gonna counter and say 1000 times fold technique on katanas but you weren't talking about novels.
Swords are definitely overused but for good reason. I would love to see more halberd or glaive action though cuz man they're "Italian smooch"

Most overused weapon : the mighty holy sword of any harem MC. They seem to be pornstar with permanent viagra effects.

Most overrated weapon?

In KR, swords and their coldblooded grind machine they call an MC.

In CN, swords and their coldblooded nationalist they call an MC.

In JP, katana and their soysauce/ mayo/ rice loving betaman they call an MC.

And of course the retarded plot armor, because lets face it, most works are wish fulfilment and do you really want a Fang Yuan or Lin Fei incident?

It is 100% the Scythe. Creatives give their characters scythes purely because of the badassery factor. It's Death's weapon, of course it's badass, duh.

The funny thing is that they almost always give the scythe a straight shaft instead of the S-shaped shaft with handles, and they never make the blade poke up vertically like a War Scythe is supposed to, and even though they have the blade at a 90 degree to the shaft they always use the cutting blade part with a swing and rarely use the sharp point like an axe like would be most effective.

It's all style no substance. There aren't a lot of fantasy weapons more silly, Illidan's double glaive being one but that is so silly it's actually quite rare.

It's an aesthetic thing. I don't really plan to have a Japan-inspired culture in my story. At least not yet.

I always found it interesting that the katana is a rather recent invention in terms of sworsmithing. :blob_evil_two:
