i don't really use traditional art so much since i found myself keep drawing porn and had to erase them lest my folks will find out, so i mostly done stuff digitally.

i do like ms paint when it comes to just screwing around. probably firealpaca as well.

Oh man! That reminds me of a prodigy I knew who could actually draw with a mouse on ms paint and make it look good. Today, you've got styluses, but this was back in the day before most people even had a phone, let alone one with a touch screen.

I don't know if it's cheaper to do it homemade like that, but I did enjoy playing with those things as well. Charcoal tracings were fun as well. Just hold paper over something textured and scrape at it with the charcoal.

I might be weird, but I didn't want to use expensive stuff because I thought the pencils and such were prettier than what I could make with them.

So my advice is crayons, reusable pens/markers, and coloring books/tracing paper. The coloring books guarantee a better result than stickman joe and I learned some neat shading techniques for crayons in daycare by coloring line art.

Also, for the love of all that's good, don't scold the kid for tracing. Tracing is such a good way to improve hand-eye coordination... And plagiarism really shouldn't be a concern for a child to worry about.
OMG, carbon paper is super cheap! Amazon.com: 200 Sheets Carbon Paper Graphite Paper Black Carbon Transfer (8.5 x 11.5 inch) Tracing Paper with 5 PCS Embossing Styluses Stylus Dotting Tools for Wood, Paper, Canvas (Wooden Embossing Stylus)

I was a TA for my chemistry teacher in high school, and she gave me an old lab notebook with carbon paper. Everyone else at university was using the carbonless paper lab books they sold in the bookstore and they thought mine was super cool. One piece of carbon paper will last through 50 or more pages of lab notes, depending on how serious you are about conserving it. I had the idea in my head that it was really expensive and rare because my lab book only came with two sheets.

We are going to have sooooo much fun with that shit.

For me, it's TEMPERA PAINT PENS. They're super vibrant and easy to use, and because they're pens, little artists have a lot of control over what they create. Moreover, paint pens are significantly less messy.
