That is a lot, you don't segregate them while you listen?I listen to so much music.
When I was younger I was really into old school hiphop especially stuff from the 90s and early 2000s. Still love that stuff today but I opened up to a lot more since then.
I started listening to jazz, funk, orchestral, classical, rock, you name it.
I especially like music from various game soundtracks and such.
I had my fill of rain sounds, it rains a lot in our area lol. How about listening to foreign songs? Since you won't understand the words wouldn't that be a different kind of listening experience?Anything that's purely instrumental. I can't focus on my own words while listening to audio words, I end up just typing what's being sung weh.
My current jam is finding like 10 hour music uploads of soothing background music on YT in one tab and then finding 10 hour or livestream rain/storm sounds and setting that to half-volume in another tab. (There are definitely ambient music compilations that have rain sounds and music combined together but I find the rain aspect to be wayyyy too quiet and I like a lil thunder, as a treat.)
I fell into a slump last week and couldn't write a thing. I managed to break out of it when a friend of mine sent me a japanese song. It felt so emotional and motivated me to listen to more. I know some of the songs were from anime but I don't know which. All I know is they helped me get out of my slump. Try listening to songs that you weren't listening to before, maybe it would provide more inspiration.I usually build a specialised playlist in the run-up to writing a story. I try to fill it with songs that match the general mood of the story, ones that will match with the tone of specific scenes, ones that can represent characters and their motivations...
It usually ends up as quite an eclectic mix. There's usually some power metal, some songs from musicals, love songs, pop...
When the time comes that I get stuck or need inspiration, I'll play the ones that are applicable to what I'm writing.
Though, for my current story, I struggle a lot with gaining the motivation to write or edit at all. I've had to listen to this song every time before trying to make sure I manage at least a little:
I started writing while listening to my favorite songs. Since then I've also tried writing with game music. Now I've moved on to Japanese songs.Any song that I want to listen to at the moment. It may be something that I've already heard or something completely new. Usually, I listen to 1-4 songs on repeat as I write the chapter. It doesn't matter if the song matches the scene I'm writing. What matter if I want to listen to the song at the moment. Even if it's my favorite song(s) I will not listen to it if I don't have the mood. I wait for a song to be stuck in my head. It may be anything from the game soundtracks or soundtrack from anime to rap or old hip-hop to electronic music or jazz, metal, rock, whatever.
Have you tried tavern music? There are like 1hour ones. If you want you can also check out kobasolo for japanese songs.Dice's OST (Chaos mostly)
Random anime battle soundtracks
Kyoukai no kanata's OST
"Medieval market" music
The witcher's ost
Hollow knight's ost
This one mostlyI usually try to match the song with the mood in the chapter/scene. But I can't write without the music. Too much noise in the backgroung u.u
I salute you.Sabaton.
I tried making playlists but dang were they a lot of work. Decided to group them all up and just skip if I wasn't in the mood. Guild Wars 2 OST has a lot of great instrumentals.I have playlists for all my stories, but I’ll listen to other stuff if the playlist doesn’t fit the mood of the scene I’m writing. 90% of the songs in my fantasy story playlists are epic instrumentals.
There are times when I just listen to like 2-3 songs on the playlist on repeat because I don’t want to listen to the rest, lol.I tried making playlists but dang were they a lot of work. Usually, it's one song for me. It just gets stuck in my head and I can't stop playing it in my mind. My last chapter was written while listening to the Vergil theme from DMC 5. I just kept listening to it while writing two thousand words or something like that. Before that, there was Marilyn Manson - Seizure of Power, and before that was Tatarka - Altyn. I won't write all the songs, but I don't look for one particular group of songs, or styles or genres. It's random. And all the songs I've mentioned before, I've never heard them before. I stumbled upon them, downloaded, and as I listened to them, literally the very next day I started writing as I listened to them. I rarely crave to listen to the song I've already heard and liked when I'm writing. That is a lot, you don't segregate them while you listen?

You are alive! I tried recruiting the huggly nyaotist into a southern unorthodox birb catching sect but it dissaproved of the abyssal mangy cubs I procured T.TSabaton.
You must come across some pretty unique songs then, lol.Usually, it's one song for me. It just gets stuck in my head and I can't stop playing it in my mind. Ahhh, game music, so many things to choose from. The problem with listening to some of them for me is I keep being reminded of the game while writing. So instead I listen to the music of the ones I haven't played. It depends of the chapter, if I want a high action chapter then I would listen ost like must die (Susanoo blazblue) or other high energy music, or if I want some sad escene then it would be a sad song, you get the idea.
Personally I would recommend music from touhou (you can pick your own poison), some persona soundtrack, blazblue ost (under heaven destrucion ll must die and the theme of izanagi), nier automata or even asura's wrath music(in your belief is beautiful)
Is that a 40minute album or a 40minute song? whoah.
Been holding onto this album for a good while now.
I've been listening to minami, and I loved the intensity of her voice. And yeah, you don't really realize how depressing some of the lyrics are until you've turned on CC.Utaite's, vocaloids, japonese music; generally any weeab music with a nice beat and depressing lyrics cause I like listening to despair and existential crisis.
If we're talking about artist and composers, the ones on top of my head would be miy_yuu, kikou, and mili
There is spooky music! hahahaha and vikings! Now I'll have to put a viking dragon in the story! This shall be a glorious day for my Southern Unorthodox Birb Catcher Sect! \(*o*)/@OneRanter how about this?
Well, I'm not lurking the forum for a while because I'm focusing on writing. My volume 6 is long overdue. You are alive! I tried recruiting the huggly nyaotist into a southern unorthodox birb catching sect but it dissaproved of the abyssal mangy cubs I procured T.T
