Quest: Hunting Mission

"So, there's a rumor that a deer strolled past the city gates, into the guild, and presented itself to the chef of the guild. Was that you?" Reciful asked as she eyed the ghost before her.

Jack flashed her a silly grin and handed her his quest report. It all started this morning when Jack had just finished prison guard duty and decided to take on another mission. The hunting mission seemed easy enough as all Jack needed to do was possess a deer or boar and bring it back to the guild. What better way to bring the 'meat' back fresh?

After getting approval from the acting receptionist, Jack headed over to the outskirts of the city and spent a few hours locating a deer. Being a scout in his living days, Jack could find some deer tracks without much effort. The ghost followed the tracks and hovered near a small creek where a group of deer were grazing and drinking the creek water.

Now, animals including the deer were sensitive to spirits as well as ghostly beings. In order for this to succeed, Jack would only have at most three chances to succeed. The ghost targeted the nearest doe and charged. Possession! Failed! Jack quickly phased through the ground to avoid detection. The doe could only relate the chill to the weather.

One chance lost, two more to go. Jack aimed at a buck this time. As soon as the male deer neared his vicinity, Jack charged. Possession! Failed! Ugh! Once more, Jack had failed. This time the whole group of deer were alerted. They looked like they were about to escape. Jack only had one chance left. He must succeed!

Possession! Success! The last attempt to possess a deer was a success. Jack had managed to possess the doe from earlier. The other deer had realized the presence of an unearthly being and ran away, but the doe was now in his possession. Jack controlled the doe and marched back to the city. The sight of a deer approaching a human city, with no fear towards the people there, was a sight to see.

Jack charged into the guild and laid before the chef, who looked at it awkwardly. Only when Jack emerged from the deer, did the chef know what had happened. The chef had heard about the ghost adventurer and he was sure that Jack was completing the hunting quest for him. The chef brought up all his courage and thanked Jack.

Jack nodded and headed to the receptionist desk to complete his quest.

Quest: Prison Guard Duty

After reaching level 2, Jack's appearance could be seen by more people now. Though it leaves a distasteful aftertaste seeing the people scream at the sight of him, at least they know he's there and that he's an adventurer of the guild.

Today's quest is prison guard duty. One would need to complete the night watching job in order to garner some trust from the government...well, enough to let Jack guard a prisoner. So, the following night, Jack arrived in front of the prison cell he will be guarding. Now, most would just stay outside the prison cell without caring about what was going on inside. However, that was different with Jack. He needed to make sure the prisoner would't do any funny business.

Jack phased into the cell just in time to catch the prisoner trying to scoop away at the wall with a spoon. The ghost smiled nonchalantly as he hovered up to the prisoner and slapped the guy's head as hard as Jack could possibly muster. Naturally, being a ghost, Jack's hand phased right through the prisoner's head. The only thing the guy could feel was a cold sensation washing over him, causing him to shiver.

The prisoner paused what he was doing and looked around. Seeing nobody, he continued digging. Jack, on the other hand, chuckled as he placed a palm on the prisoner's right shoulder. The prisoner immediately stopped and slowly looked at his shoulder. Seeing Jack's colorless gray hand on his shoulder, the prisoner leaped to his feet and spun around.

But there was no one. At this moment, the prisoner feared for his life. He tried to call out for the prison guards but the only guard on duty was naturally the ghost. No one was coming for him. This, the prisoner also realized. Frantic, the prisoner tried everything to escape but every time he tried, Jack would materialize a part of his body or knock something down to scare the prisoner.

After a few attempts at escaping, the prisoner finally realized something. Every time he tried to escape, the ghost would appear. However, if he didn't try to escape, then the ghost won't appear. Although he was scared at the thought of a ghost wandering about in his cell, it was better not seeing anything than seeing something horrendous.

And so, time passed by and the shift ended. Jack left the prison cell to report his quest completion.

Quest: Giant Rat Subjugation

Since Jack already knew that the sewers were right below the guild, the ghost decided to take on the Giant Rat Subjugation quest. As soon as it was approved, he phased through the ground and began searching the sewers for giant rats. After a few minutes of searching, he could only find normal sized rats...strange.

Maybe the normal-sized rats were subordinates to the giant rats. Jack decided to follow one as it scurried about for food. And as he had suspected, instead of eating the food it found, the rat stored it in its mouth before scurrying towards an unknown location. Jack followed the rat at a distance in order to avoid detection.

After a half hour or so, Jack found himself at the opening of a large room. The ghost peered inside and saw a large number of giant rats. Was this their nest? How should Jack go about doing this? Possess one and have it attack as many giant rats as it could before being slaughtered? Sounds like a plan.

As the sewers were initially damp and cold, Jack had a few more open windows before the rats noticed his presence. The ghost charged towards the largest giant rat and tried to possess it. For five times, he failed all five. Luckily, on the six try, he succeeded. As a giant rat, Jack was equipped with sharp teeth and keen senses.

Jack scurried towards the biggest cluster of giant rats and swiftly attacked two of the nearest unsuspecting giant rats. The kills were swift, however, before Jack could deal a fatal wound on the third rat, the rest of the giant rats retaliated and dealt the finishing blow. With the possessed rat dead, Jack was naturally ejected from the corpse.

Jack continued this process seven more times until he had finally killed off twenty giant rats. It was just as Jack finished killing the last required giant rat when he discovered a serious problem. How was he supposed to carry back the twenty giant rat tails? Jack phased out of the giant rat he was currently possessing and hovered about the vicinity, looking for something to carry the tails.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming from down the passageway in front of him. It was nearly late in the night...why would there be anybody down in the sewers? Jack hovered silently towards the sounds until he saw a giant rat...walking on its hind legs! Was this really a giant rat? Or was this a ratman?

Either way, the ratman was perfect to carry something that could contain the twenty giant rat tails. However, the ratman had higher senses than a giant rat and it had already noticed Jack. The ghost had one chance before the...and it ran away. After it! Jack hovered as fast his ghostly legs could carry him and chased after the ratman.

Soul Suction! Jack drained some vitality from the ratman, causing its speed to decrease a bit. At this point, he tried Possession on the ratman. Possession! Miss! Slippery bastard! Jack doesn't believe he couldn't possess it. As the ghost continued to chase after the ratman, he would alternate Soul Suction and Possession. Miss upon miss until finally, a success!

With his new body, Jack felt immense strength. He hurried over to the place where he killed all those rats and collected the twenty tails in a small box. Strangely enough, the giant rats remaining in the room seemed to cower upon the sight of him...or rather of the ratman he possessed. Could there be a bigger story behind this?

Jack didn't have time to think about it and started carrying the box out of the sewers. With nimble movements, he approached the city walls and climbed up the walls to avoid detection from the city guards. Quickly and silently, he arrived at the guild. As he entered, he immediately drew attention from the other adventurers, but they seemed to dismiss Jack's presence as Jack did not show any hostile intentions.

Jack arrived before the receptionist who asked him if he was registering for the guild. With barely a smile, Jack dumped the box of twenty giant rat tails on the table and pointed at his application. When the receptionist found out that the ratman was Jack the ghost all along, she quickly started reviewing the quest report.

Description:
Hello, fellow adventurers. We have been researching slime biology for quite some time but it seems we have reached the bottleneck of our research. The lack of slime variety is one of the core problems and we need you to kidnap little slime outside of Scribel's City.

  • Items: Healing Gel (5) [Minor Objective reward]

Quest: Slime Kidnapping

So a fellow adventurer was looking for some slimes, eh? Seemed easy enough. Jack rushed out of the city gates and arrived near where the slime raids took place previously. There were still a number of slimes left ranging from water slimes to fire slimes to rock slimes. But leaderless, the slimes seemed to not know what to do. Jack controlled the ratman body of his and rushed towards the center of a couple of rock slimes. Immediately before the rock slimes attacked, Jack phased out of the ratman, leaving it to perish.

While the rock slimes attacked the poor ratman, the ghost rushed towards the nearest rock slime and possessed it with Possession. Jack controlled the rock slime and headed towards the sewers. Locating where Kail's room was, Jack crawled out from the alchemist's toilet. Good thing the adventurer wasn't using it or no one could imagine the consequences.

Kail was shocked at the sight of the rock slime and moved to attack when a ghostly hand emerged from the rock slime. Now, Kail had heard rumors about a ghost adventurer, but even so, the sight shocked the adventurer speechless. Only after a while did Kail calm down enough to figure out what was going on. The alchemist brought out a container to store the rock slime in as Jack released control over it. Jack emerged from the rock slime and signaled that he will be bringing four more slimes to complete the quest.

Without hearing a response from Kail, the ghost phased through the ground and rushed back to the slime raid site to possess another slime. He repeated this step and captured a fire slime, a water slime, a mossy slime, and a mud slime. After bringing each of the slimes back to Kail and apologizing profusely for destroying the adventurer's toilet, Jack headed back to the guild and submitted the quest report.

Quest report:
Long story short the gang give us our first mission.

Me together with the new Recruits in the the gang which is fellow Workers of My former Slave Owner were all tasked to salvage some shipwreck.

A tiresome task seriously... This is nothing but bullying to be honest.

After All the shipwreck here in Spire Reef is long ago Already Salvaged clean by various group so basically it's all beyond empty & despite that they still tell us to salvage it & definitely must bring back something.... Its absurd you know.

As we were searching the graveyard of ships looking for anything. My fairy familiar Campanella whom I secretly ordered to be a look out saw other groups hiding in ambush.

I secretly shared this info to my comrade... Thus creating a plan.

We annihilated the opposing group massacred them & looting their stuffs from their dead bodies.

While at it I suggested to salvage some wood who still in good conditions & metals such as nail & chain since it might be put into good use.

And so despite the gang blatant bullying we came back not empty handed.

[ Campanella do scout the area for me & find some crabs ] Reciful Said with a gentle quiet voice.

[ Hai! ] Said By the tiny fairy before suddenly Vanished with a small blink of light.

[ Hey! newbie! What are doing? ] Said by a hooligan looking man.

[ Hm? Oooh!... don't mind her Alfredo... That Newbie lass known for being weird. she always keep talking to herself alone ] said by a short dark skinned man.

[ Eh? Seriously? Why do the boss keep recruiting weirdo's Everytime.... Right Baga? ]

Currently three people wandering in the black shore in the west coast near Spire reef city.

Reciful, Alfredo & Baga the Iron hand, they're in a duty to find some giant rock crabs & bring it back to the gangs Base by the order of the Gang Boss.

Alfredo & Baga were both senior members of the Gang. While Reciful is a newbie gang member accompanying the two acting as support & to learn from them.

Alfredo is a tall man with a Hooligan looks born in the slum of The holy human empire.

Baga the Iron Hand is from a desert native tribe he is short with dark skin yet muscular build... He is once a slave here in Spire Reef before being part of the Gang long ago.

lastly Reciful 'Innocent Malice' is known as a weird newbie member of the Gang... Where she came from is unknown, she is sold as a slave to a merchant whom gain instant wealth soon after buying her. then suddenly suffering a terrible misfortune afterwards when he is at the peak of his wealth losing everything he have... Which just so happens to free Reciful from slavery as a result.

Under their boss orders they went looking for a Giant Rock Crabs who supposedly living here in this area near Spire Reef where Large Jagged black pillar of rock reside...

***

[ Mom! I'm back!! ] A cheerful fairy suddenly appeared out of thin air right in front of Reciful face!

[ Shhhh! Quiet! So did you find anything? ] Reciful put her index finger in her lip quietly reminding her fairy to be quiet, fortunately Alfredo & Baga did not notice them.

[ Hai! Campanella will be quietly quiet!... There is 3 Giant crabs Behind that rock! & On the left there is 2 crabs pretending to be a rock! ] Reported By Campanella to Reciful explaining while doing exaggerated movement empathizing her actions.

[Well done for now go back inside the pouch ] Reciful Stroke the fairies head with her finger as a compliment.

[ Eheheheehe Mom compliment Me ehehehehe♪] After making a silly face Campanella went inside Reciful Cloth pouch hanging on her side.

Reciful Approach The two senior companion to tell the info from Campanella... Of course she won't tell this info is from her fairy familiar, otherwise she would have to plot a killing plan for this two to silent them forever.

Campanella existence is a secret of Reciful here in Spire Reef who is doing a under cover Job for the Adventurer guild.

Fairy Campanella act as Reciful's eyes, ears & arms while pretending as a nobody in this pirate ruled small country Spire Reef.

***
Jumping on the back of the Giant Rock Crab Reciful who is covered By a Red Aura a effect of her Berserker Mode, swung her Fist repeatedly until she crushed its shell.

[ This end here.... Die] With a last swing of her fist with all her might behind it she slams the broken shell of the Giant crabs killing it instantly Scatter crabs inner fluids & innards everywhere.

[ Good Job Newbie... Heck thats was fcking wild! you're literally covered By Crabs flesh! Ahahaha! ] Said By Alfredo who killed another Rock Crab nearby.

With the info Reciful shared They all successfully hunt the 5 Rock Crabs.

[ Wow that went way too well? Don't you think? Never I experienced a very easy Crabs hunt you know... Not like this ] said by Alfredo who seems suspicious.

[ Hmmm Hey Innocence, How did you know the exact location of the Rock Crabs... They're very good at camouflaging as Rocks... Your new here right.... How did you know] Baga clearly suspicious of Reciful.

Reciful is currently using the alias Innocence here in Spire Reef. Despite being a not well known Adventurer she use a alias just for the sake of it... Actually she just find its fun doing undercover in that way.

[ I guess there no need to hide it huh... I keep it a secret when I was a slave but I can you a unique magic you see ] Reciful Explain herself as she Extended her own Shadow & slowly absorbed the remains of the Crabs inside her shadow storage.

[ I can use Dark magic... I use it to locate the crabs I can use it to identify the shadows of living & none living things around me.] Reciful explained to the two Senior who is both clearly surprised, they also Accepted the fact of her hiding it as a secret. after all being Auctioned as a slave with both good look & unique abilities here in Spire Reef is equivalent to attracting worse kinds of influential individuals... its bad end for a slave.

And so the gang became more friendly towards Reciful who entrusted her secret to them... They see it as her being open to them a sign of loyalty & comaraderie whom greatly treasured here in Spire Reef.
..........
......
....
..
.
But in truth...

Reciful Deceive them as Natural as she breaths!

She did not tell them the whole truth only a fragments of the actual facts.

She successfully started earning their trust & make them accept her.

Its all going according to her plan.

Quest: Recovering the Dead Body

Being a ghost, Jack was more attuned to feeling the aura of death than other living beings. However, as a low-level, it was hard for Jack to accurately pinpoint onto an intended target. It was all trial-and-error and a bit of luck for the ghost. But, Jack believed that with enough practice, he would be able to learn this skill.

After Jack was approved of this quest, he quickly rushed towards the city gates and notified the guards about his quest with lots of gesturing and pointing at the quest paper. Once the guards knew what was going on, Jack exited the city and headed towards the last known location. Upon arrival, he immediately felt the aura of death.

Excited into thinking that he might have found the target's body right off the bat, Jack rushed over and saw...a rat corpse. Disappointed but motivated, Jack calmed his soul and continued sensing. Five times out of six, the ghost sensed the aura of death only to find corpses of animals and other humans. However, on the sixth try, Jack found the body.

Luckily, at least half of the face was still intact. The crows and vultures fought over the body so they hadn't managed to deal enough damage to make Jack unable to identify the body. Now, the question lies with what to do with the body. Jack had never tried possessing a dead body before...could it even work?

Forget it! Jack decisively glanced at the body and used Possession. And it worked on the first try! Maybe it was because the body was already dead so there was no resistance trying to push him out. After possessing the body, Jack controlled it to stand up. As one of the legs were broken, he couldn't walk properly and needed to slouch into a limp. Jack grabbed a hooded cloak nearby and wrapped it around the body.

Then, Jack hobbled back to the guild and released his hold of the body in front of the supervising receptionist.

Quest: Goblin Subjugation

Kill three goblins and collect their ears? Easy! Jack grabbed this quest and went to get it approved. The receptionist wanted to warn Jack not to overestimate himself but stopped when he recalled that Jack was a ghost. What could the goblins do to a ghost? Pray him to death? After the quest was approved, Jack went out into the wilderness to search for some stray goblins.

The further into the wilderness he searched the quieter it got. In fact, by the time Jack stopped to find out where he was, it was strangely quiet...as if all the sounds of the wilderness had died out. As a former scout, Jack observed the ground for tracks and found many drag marks and what looked to be the footprints of goblins and something else.

Jack followed the footprints until he arrived at a clearing. There were at least thirty goblins laying down camp! And there were a couple of stronger and bigger monsters...hobgoblins? The goblins seemed to have captured most of the animals in the vicinity and were preparing them for their next meal.

During the preparation, Jack noticed that some goblins would wander off behind some bushes, probably to relieve themselves. This seemed like a perfect chance to nab and kill the required amount of goblins. The ghost crept up to one goblin while it was peeing in the bushes and used Possession. Success!

Because the goblin was relieving itself, it let down its guard, allowing Jack an easier time of possessing the monster. Jack controlled the goblin to finish peeing before walking off a ways until he found the remnants of a hunter's spiked pit trap. After taking out a knife and cutting off both of the goblin's ears, Jack jumped into the pit. Right before impact, Jack released his control over the goblin. The goblin regained his self-awareness too late and perished in the pit, impaled through by one of the many wooden spikes.

Jack repeated this step until there were three pairs of goblin ears on the ground. Now, he could use his Hover skill to levitate the three pairs of ears back to the guild, but imagine the sight of that. He didn't want to cause any rumors again, even if it was funny. Instead, Jack decided to try his hand at possessing a hobgoblin. Hobgoblins, unlike goblins, were more accepted by Scribel City as they have higher intelligence and some can even speak the common language.

Jack hovered over and found a hobgoblin warrior. He positioned himself a few feet away from the hobgoblin warrior and charged. Possession! Failed! Jack quickly dove into the ground for fear of being discovered. Luckily, the hobgoblin only sneezed once before shrugging away the chill. Jack phased out of the ground and aimed his sights against another hobgoblin. This time, the hobgoblin looked to be a shaman class. Possession! Nope!

Jack failed a second time. The shaman seemed to have sensed something and was bringing up its staff as if to cast a spell. Jack hurriedly escaped back to the spiked pit trap. Without a hobgoblin body, the ghost could only levitate the goblin ears and float back to the city. Since then, stories of three invisible goblins with only their bloody ears shown wandering about looking for misbehaving children to eat were told to kids whenever they misbehaved.

Quest: Homeless Street Kids

So it seems the orphans of deceased adventurers and mercenaries have been walking down the wrong path lately. Some may say that they were forced to do it out of desperation, but Jack believed that they were just being lazy. There were many jobs being offered to people of all ages. Jack believed that the orphans just didn't want to do such unsavory work.

It seemed Jack really need to teach them a lesson. Since orphans often loiter in the Scribel City market, Jack decided to head over there and see if he could prevent some kids from walking down the wrong path. After getting the quest application approved, the ghost hovered to the market and laid in wait. Soon, Jack saw a group of bedraggled children ranging from six to twelve years old.

The kids seemed to have planned to rob one of the stalls in the market. However, Jack won't allow that to happen. Right as the twelve year old was about to reach over and grab a customer's wallet, Jack phased through the customer and emerged from the wallet with a scary face.

"Ahhh!" The twelve year old shouted and pissed himself horrified.

Before the other kids could do anything, the twelve year old ran away, causing the other confused kids to follow their leader. But the twelve year old was too fast. By the time the kids were out of the market, the leader of the group of orphans were nowhere to be found. Thinking that their leader probably went home, the other kids headed back to their hideout. But, in actuality, Jack had been following the twelve year old all along, scaring him every so often.

The twelve year old ran for hours before stopping by the city gates where he spotted a figure, possibly an adventurer. The twelve year old rushed up to the adventurer, begging for his safety and rambling something about a ghost. However, when he got close, he noticed something was off. The figure turned around and gazed at his horrified face. It was Jack or rather Jack's face.

"Ahhhh!!" The twelve year old boy screamed in utter terror once more and fell on his butt, his legs shaking and unable to exert any strength.

The adventurer, controlled by Jack, crouched down beside the boy and asked. "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?"

"W-W-Who are y-you? Are y-you human or g-ghost?" The boy stuttered.

"If you don't find a proper job, I'm your worst nightmare!" Jack's face scrunched up into an angry and scary scowl, causing the boy to freeze in shock before fainting.

Satisfied with the venture, Jack released his hold of the adventurer, who woke up and found the boy lying on the ground. The adventurer carried the boy to an old clinic where he soon woke up. At first, the boy thought that what he had experienced was all a dream. However, when he saw Jack's silhouette leaning by the wall, the ghost's words appeared in the boy's mind.

If you don't find a proper job, I'm your worst nightmare! Worst nightmare! WORST NIGHTMARE!

The boy leaped out of bed and grabbed onto the attending doctor's legs. "Please doctor, give me a job! I can do anything! Please, you got to help me! I-I don't want to see that anymore! Please give me a job, please!"

At first the doctor tried to refuse but after a while, the doctor agreed and gave the boy a job as a janitor. Relieved, the boy looked about and found that the ghost had truly left. Jack had returned back to the guild where he submitted his quest report.

Delivering orders to each table is not much a problem.

Working as a bar maid is does not imposes much of an issue despite Reciful being a first timer Bar waitress.

The main problem is the behavior of the costumers & their morality.... But not much can be expected in terms of good conduct here in Spire Reef anyway.

Most male see maids as sexual object no matter their looks or age... Surprisingly enough even the few female customer of the bar have the same taste like the male customers.

Reciful did her best to serve as a bar maid all while causally ignoring & giving cold shoulders response to drunks customers Approaches... with a smile on her face.

But there is also those that always go beyond the line... So Reciful Beat them mercilessly & efficiently without destroying any of the bar properties thus throwing them outside the bar.

After this incident keep repeating again & again until soon No one dare to tried sexually Abusing Reciful again... Especially when they Remembered Her unbearably cold smile as red blood stains from those she beaten up drop upon her pure white cheeks which give anyone Shivers.

Surprisingly enough, Bar maid Reciful became quite famous unintentionally.

& for reason unknown despite all those stuff. the amount of customer the bar received increased... A certain type of fetish started blooming in Spire Reef it seems.

In any case she did a job well done as a bar maid.

(Not part of the report)

In a alley somewhere in Spire Reef at midnight of full moon.

[ Damn fucking shit... That bitch who would thought not only she is Strong. She also has a gang backing her ass... Fuckkk!!]

[ Tsk bad luck, what's with that flat chested brat acting arrogant... She better don't walk at Spire Reef street at night I'll rape that bitch!! ]

[ How about we secretly assault her? What do you think guy... Let teach that Albino bitch a lesson ]

A group of pathetic Thugs walking in a certain alley at night. covered in wounds they plot a Revenge against a certain Bar Maid who beat them up due to their excessive rude lecherous conduct.

Suddenly a tiny light appeared in front of them.

A ephemeral 14cm tall Humanoid girl with a insect like wing... A fairy blocked their path smiling at them... Behind her is the full moon illuminating her already shinning visage.

[.... All those who insult My Mom, all of it is shall perish ] with a cold tone that bring dread, she spoke such words.

A Sudden outburst of light exploded & the 14cm tiny girl became a mature 175cm Otherworldly beautiful lady with Six insect like wings on her back wearing a white gown.

[Ufufufu so you three are no exception Thou also are Sinful very very Sinful like the others... How dare you insignificant maggots Approach My Mom(Reciful)... You shall pay with your pathetically useless life!!!!] her beautiful smiling face distorted into a ugly expression containing hellish rage.
.........

.
Soon the amount of people who pestering Reciful on her bar maid job reduced to none.

Quest: Missing Children

Seemed like there were a lot of missing people. And most of them were children under thirteen years old. Was this a serial kidnapping? Jack glanced at one of the more recent ones missing. Alex...age seven...last seen at the market. The market it was. Jack headed towards the market after the application was approved and hovered about near a dark alleyway. Suddenly, an eerie groan could be heard as a faint figure emerged from the darkness. It was a ghost! Generally, normal people would run away scared, but Jack rushed up and high-fived the ghost.

"Charles! How's it been? Listen, I've a question to ask. Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary lately? Like any children gone missing?" Jack asked using ghostspeak.

"Hey Jack!" Charles responded back in ghostspeak. "Funny you should mention it, I saw a kid get grabbed off the streets just the other day."

"Really? Did the kid look like this?" Jack asked excitedly as he showed Charles a picture of Alex.

"Yea...yea! That's him alright." Charles nodded.

"Great! Did you get a good look at who did it?" Jack inquired with surprise at the luck.

Charles combed his ghostly hair with his fingers and smiled. "Of course I did, I practically watched the whole thing go down up close. It was enlightening!"

"Well? Who took them?" Jack asked urgently.

"Wasn't too sure on who they were since they covered their faces with weird masks but I did follow them to an abandoned house just a ways outside the city walls." Charles remarked as he pointed to the far southwest.

"Okay, thanks! I'll be sure to burn some offerings for you later." Jack thanked as he sped away.

"Make sure to burn some beef! I haven't had beef in a long time, it's always chicken this and chicken that. Ugh! I'm sick and tired of it! Make sure you burn beef!" Charles called out after the adventurer.

Jack hovered as fast as he could towards the southwest outskirts of the city. A mile or so past the city walls, the ghost came across the abandoned house. Surprisingly, the house was still standing. Usually, these abandoned houses would be torn down for remodeling or something like that. Did the government missed this house or...was someone still supporting its standing?

Jack circled around the house and found no visible cellar. The house was one-storied and it looked rather plain. There wasn't even a chimney. After circling about for a few rounds, Jack phased through and saw the dusty furniture and rotten food. Even the ashes by the fireplace seemed to have grown some mold in it. There were no entrances leading to an attic or a basement. It looked truly empty and abandoned.

But then, Jack recalled something. Why was there a fireplace when there's no chimney outside? Something was definitely up. Jack approached the fireplace and phased through. What laid behind it was a secret staircase leading downwards! Jack phased through the stairs and arrived at the bottom after what seemed to be ten flights of stairs. Who had the resources to build such a deep basement?

At the end of the staircase, there was a long hallway. At the end of the hallway was a pair of steel doors. Heh, it may stop other people, but not Jack. The ghost phased through the steel doors and paused in shock. There were blood everywhere...and bodies...body parts! No one was alive in this room, but there seemed to be remnants of a ritual at the center of the room.

There, the head of poor Alex laid on a ritual magic circle. Jack headed back to the guild and reported his findings as well as the death of Alex.

Quest: Infiltrating the Criminal Network

After coming back from the missing children quest, Jack couldn't help but think back to what he had found. Though bloody and gory, the mess still failed to hide something that maybe one of the criminals had accidentally dropped. It was a badge that, even at a quick glance, Jack could pick out and recognize. The badge had some really familiar symbols on it.

Jack quickly grabbed the "Infiltrating the Criminal Network" quest and had it approved. He needed to go back to the abandoned house before his previous quest was approved and the place gets swarmed with investigators. Jack rushed over once his application was approved and searched around until he found the badge. As he expected, the badge was an adventurer's card.

**********

"This isn't an adventurer's card." Sil replied straightforwardly as he handed the card back to Jack.

"What do you mean? This looks just like the one I have." Jack asked as he compared the card with his card.

"Yea, it may look like it, but there are some subtle differences in appearance and material used. This is clearly a fake card. And the adventurer on here is fake too. Where did you get this?" Sil explained as he searched the membership records.

"Don't worry about it just yet. I'm working on a case." Jack replied.

"Oh? A mission eh? I gotchu, I got chu!" Sil nodded in understanding.

Jack looked at the fake adventurer's card and wondered...if someone left this there, would they come and get it? Jack hovered back to the abandoned house and stayed there on a stake out. And the wait was worth it! After some time into the night, a figure did appear. The figure searched for a while until the person found the fake adventurer's card that Jack planted.

After brushing away at the blood, the figure left hurriedly. Jack followed after the figure...back into the city. Wait! Was that the upper-class district? Jack followed the figure to a mansion. This looked like a rich person's house...maybe even a noble's or government worker's home. Jack phased through the door and followed the figure down to the basement.

There were at least twenty people in the basement. Everyone of them were wearing diabolical masks. Jack followed the figure as they congregated in front of an altar. Since no one had or were able to notice him, Jack decided to listen in on whatever schemes they were cooking up.

"So, how many more til we are done?" The figure, Jack had followed, asked timidly.

"Until the Noble Sir finds it enough! Now stop asking this senseless question again! And put on your damn mask!" A gruff voice responded as the man with the skull mask grunted.

"Y-Yes Skull, right away." The figure mumbled with his head down as he placed a goblin mask over his face.

"Good Goblin." Skull turned over to the others. "The Noble Sir is almost done with summoning a powerful being to help our cause. He just needs five more sacrifices. Just five more and we're done! Understood? Troll, Orc, Imp, and Goblin, the adventurers have been snooping around lately. Don't get caught! Understood?"

"Yes Skull!" The four masked men nodded.

"Alright, no more of the lower-class children. The Noble Sir wants noble blood for the last five." Skull reminded.

"Noble kids? But they're extremely guarded, how should we do that?" Troll asked worriedly.

"Figure it out yourself!" Skull snapped. "Fine, I heard a group of them are going out hunting next week. They won't be bringing a lot of guards so you can nab them then. Got it?"

"Got it." Imp confirmed.

"Good! Dismissed!" Skull waved his hand as he hurried and left.

The others departed as well and Jack felt that it was time for him to leave as well. Jack hurried back to submit his quest report. Time was of the essence!

Quest: Slime Core Investigation

After reading the report from a previous adventurer, Jack accepted this quest and hovered over to the 'gray' market to look for the slime core selling potion brewers. After staking out at the center of the market for a few hours, the ghost found a couple of people who met the targets' descriptions. Luckily, the potion brewers did not notice him as they sold their slime cores. Once they were done, Jack followed them back to their base - a house at the edge of the Red Light district.

Inside, Jack saw an open book with the description of how slime cores are formed. Slime cores are nature-made crystalline structures formed by the condensing of magic. Jack glanced over at the potion brewers and found that they were making man-made magic cores like the ones one would use in golems. And the ones that were of inferior quality, they had the audacity to brush them off as slime cores?

Would this be considered counterfeiting? Maybe only the Adventurer's Guild could decide on what to do next. After seeing what he had to see, Jack snuck out a freshly-made 'slime' core and headed back to the guild. Upon arrival, he submitted his quest report and handed in the 'slime' core for reference.

Quest: The sewer is collapsing

After obtaining quest approval, Jack phased through the ground and into the sewers. Without wasting any time, he started looking around for the exact location of where the collapse occurred. Following with what the previous adventurer had commented about on the location of the collapse, Jack arrived at the general area shortly. He phased upwards just to have a sneak peek of where he was and found that he was in the Residential district.

So the problem stemmed from the Residential district, eh? Now, he needed to find where exactly. Jack phased back to the sewers and started looking around for rotten supports. As he hovered closer to the center of the district, there were more and more sightings of damaged supports. Upon closer look, one could tell that the supports weren't rotting in any way. No, they were eaten away. Something was eating away at the supports, causing them to crack and eventually collapse.

Jack followed the damaged supports until he arrived at the collapse. To his horror, there were hundreds...no thousands of small, gray insects gnawing away at the collapsed support. Jack phased back up to determine where he was and found himself in someone's home. Jack investigated the house for some clues and found that no one has been home for more than a week. Upon closer look, there were even some scratches and brown stains on the wooden floor.

Jack rushed out of the house and observed his surroundings. The house looked like any other house from the district, however, it was the only one with a few evil-warding talismans taped on its door. He found that the surrounding area's grass had dried and blackened. He needed to get out of here. Something was...felt very wrong.

Jack immediately headed back to the guild. He noted that it took him less than an hour, with no twist and turns, to arrive at the market. From there, he found his way back to guild to report his findings.
