"Slimes are friends! Not food!" Ume pouted, but did not interfere as Gargan poked her best friend. As far she could tell, the green slime was not bothered by it. In fact, it was still chewing on her hand.

Sir Gawrgaru had an incredulous look on his face.

"How could Luna not recognize me?!" He exclaimed in disbelief. "Luna... ever since we were little..."

"You ain't my fiancé." :blob_hmph: Ume interrupted. "My real fiancé is way bigger and scarier than you."

She was already taking enormous gulps of the Dragon's Beard that had arrived in front of her. It was a decisively un-ladylike way of drinking, and she easily drained more than three quarters of the mug in one large swig. Given her short stature, it was quite hard to imagine a young girl chugging such a large quantity of alcohol, but truthfully Ume was holding back.

For a dragon, this was basically like a thimble's worth of alcohol, and it only felt like a tiny water droplet.

Less than a second later, Ume drained the remainder of her drink. She had a disappointed look on her face, as she couldn't believe that it was empty already. What kind of shoddy human bar was this? Any respectable tavern ought to provide magical bottomless chalices for every patron. Proper mugs and pots should re-fill themselves whenever they are emptied.

Sir Gawrgaru's face was pale as a ghost, and it looked as if his brain had stopped working. He was clearly flabbergasted and unable to formulate words. It had been an especially rough day, and the knight simply didn't understand why the universe was doing this to him. First, his airship's anchor had snapped with no reason. He knocked himself falling through the ship's floor, and when he woke up, the Atlantis Trident had crashed into a tannery in Aerelieth which was over 300 kilometers away.

By any degree of common sense, it was impossible for his airship to drift from the Slime Rocks to Aerelieth in such a short period of time. If anything, his airship must have zigzagged around all the islands in between. Sir Gawrgaru was convinced that some kind of witchcraft was at work, and now it had claimed his fiancée as well. :blob_no:

Ume abruptly stood up without warning.

She tugged quite forcefully on Gargan's arm and whined childishly.

"I don't like this tavern. Let's go and find another one!"

That was quite a whiplash, as the knight seem to admitted his defeat too easy....Something wasn't right, Gargan couldn't hep but noticed. He was drunk, but his perceptive eye still could pick up something from the young knight, but also, he was drunk, and couldn't really pinpointed it. But, the man was devastated, when Lady Luna flat out rejected him. Gargan was certain that there is something going between the two, but that is as far as his not-so-sober mind caught on.

However, he does feel pity for Gawrgaru, as no normal man would drown themselves in so much alcohol to the point even standing near him causes Gargan eyes to burn. Even through the little interaction they just have, and Gargan first impression to Sir Gawrgaru must have been terrible, considering he was caught linking arm with his fiancé, or someone that looked like her, and yet he still kept his calm and conversed in a civilized manner. Those nobles back at his world could learn a thing or two from this gentleman here.

"I am sorry, Sir Gawrgaru, but without the Lady consent, I'm affair that there is nothing I can do." He bow apologetically, as his mind began to think of the situation behind this story.....Was there an argument between the two? Was there some sort of misunderstanding? Is this just a case of misidentification? Is this Lady Luna a shapeshifter who took her imagine?

For some reason, or for a very good reason, called drunkenness, Gargan's mind honed in on the last possibility... There were cases of skin-walkers and changelings assumed someone else appearances, so it was not that far fetch of a possibility. Except, Gargan forgot that this isn't his world.

"Now, if you would excused us, the Lady seem to wanted to tried all wines and ales this city have to offered, and I was chosen as her escort....." Gargan stood up, which followed by Lady Luna, who true identity is that of a shapeshifting dragon by the name of Ume...... and left the tavern, but not before Gargan payed for his drink, and asked for a message to passed to Sir Gawrgaru.

The message simply read: "This lady is not your fiancé, Sir Knight..... She may be just a skin-walker, or a shapeshifter who simply borrow your lovely fiancé image..... Don't lose your hope."

Leaving Golden Wings, and with the young lady in his arms, Gargan and Ume began to visited half a dozens other establishments, but most of it was blank in his mind....Maybe he shouldn't drink too much after such a long time abstinent from alcohol. One thing he know, however, that he doesn't looking forward to the next morning.

"...Hoh, so this establishment serves actual fairies in their 'Spring Rain' cocktails? Well, the more you know."

Kanon gave the matter about two seconds of consideration. The fastest way, of course, was to tip the mug and chug everything, then call for a refill; it should take about five seconds tops. Maybe the addition of a fairy would make the brew taste magical---

Yeah, I'm not touching that.

Picking up a spoon, Kanon unceremoniously scooped up the wild fairy and lifted her out of the mug, uncertain what she should do next.

Lucia... had a headache. :blob_no:

Chantilly, Felicia, and the others were talking about their love lives, and they had all agreed to go out to buy lunch with each other. As fellow young receptionists at the Adventurer's Guild, they had politely invited Lucia along with them, except the awkward 27-year-old paled and her face turned slightly green.

Dealing with people was too hard...

Talking to clients was her part of her job, and Lucia was forced to do it when she had a shift, but she didn't want to talk to anyone during her lunch break...

Lucia made up an excuse and said that she brought lunch from home already.

The rest of her coworkers ended up leaving without her (which was a relief), except there was one tiny problem.

Lucia had lied.

She hadn't packed lunch, so she glumly made her way to the tavern to fish out some coins to buy something to eat. The 27-year-old receptionist looked quite miserable climbing onto a barstool by herself, and she seemed to radiate this energy that she didn't want to talk to anyone. Her lunch order was similarly dull (a plain piece of bread), and once it arrived, she picked up a fork and knife and began slicing it up into neat bite-sized squares.

"I doubt that square of toast is gonna suffice for anybody's lunch, except maybe the alcoholic fairy over here."

Taking care not to drop Ilya as she approached Lucia, Kanon waved the spoon as a conductor would a baton - in other words, without the slightest clue of what she was doing.

"How about it? Betcha haven't eaten something as exotic as a real fairy before. Wanna try?"

It was rather difficult to tell if she was joking or not, what with the smile and everything.

Lucia glanced over at the woman who addressed her -- and she squinted.

Did she know this person?

For that matter, Lucia was quite sure that she didn't recognize her at all, which was saying something since Lucia tended to remember most of the quest reports that she read. Lucia memorized all of the adventurers that she interacted with. This stranger was not someone that she had seen at the reception desk before, which left one of three possibilities:

A. It was a gangster sent by her landlord to make her pay her overdue apartment rent.
B. The Black Butterflies of the Adventurer's Guild had finally decided to send an assassin to poison her coffee.
C. A poor oblivious woman was trying to flirt with her at the bar.

Of these three options, the last was the least likely, so Lucia preemptively decided it must have been the professional bully that her landlord hired. Lucia really was several weeks overdue on her rent, and the main reason for that was because she had raided every grocery store in the city during the Worldshift and purchased all of the coffee beans off the shelves (resulting in a 2000 kg coffee stash).

Currently, Lucia basically had no money whatsoever.

"...Give me two more weeks until I get my paycheck," Lucia told the the stranger with a frown. "I'll pay next month."

The 27-year-old receptionist eyed the drenched fairy cautiously.

Was this... a new creative form of psychological coercion that was meant to intimidate her into paying rent...?

Perhaps the fairy was a metaphor, and if Lucia didn't pay her rent, her landlord would drown her in the lake and then feed her to the wolves... something something something... metaphor symbolism allegory... butterfly...

"I'll pass on getting eaten, thank you very much." Lucia muttered.

"Oh, yuck..."

Frequent exposure to vomiting after severe hangovers did not, in fact, make it any more pleasant or tolerable when it happened. Kanon managed to curb the impulse to shake her hands dry - which could have ended somewhat badly. Instead she produced a plain white hanky and wiped her right hand with, before setting that and the occupied spoon together onto the table.

"On the bright side, I guess this proves that healing potions are not, in fact, made from fairy barf, because that definitely didn't make me feel any better. Thank the heavens for small mercies, as they say..."

"...heh?"

If one stared hard enough, they'd be able to see the massive ? hovering over Kanon's tilted head.

What in the blazes is she talking about?

She blinked a few times. Then a few times more, then again. Nope, her brain still hadn't managed to decipher the meaning behind those words yet, so the confused smile remained frozen to her face.

The letters Sen, what do they mean? What do they mean?! What's this about delayed payment? Can someone fill me in on what happened here?

Being able to hear the mumbling did not do any wonders in shedding light on the situation either; it just made her more confused. And though she wished for enlightenment, she was unable to understand. So eventually, Kanon stopped thinking.

"I'm not here to collect money, miss receptionist. No, I'm here for something else."

Because there's no way this sentence could be misinterpreted now, could it?

Lucia's face paled as white as a ghost upon hearing this, and her hand holding a fork began to quiver.

If it wasn't Option A... then surely it was an assassin from the Black Butterflies. In fact, it made a lot of sense. The stranger was trying to poison her by offering a toxic fairy to eat. Dumping the fairy in her own drink and tasting it was a ruse -- a trick to deceive Lucia to make her think fairy residue was safe to consume. However, any skilled assassin clearly built up resistances to a number of different toxins, and the stranger's ability to tolerate a toxic fairy was no indicator that the beverage was safe to drink.

"I... I... I don't know what you're talking about," Lucia stammered. "Y-You have the wrong person. Wrong address!" :blob_teary:

She lowered her head and stared straight at the piece of bread on her plate. Lucia was desperate to avoid eye contact, and she reflexively switched to the ostrich strategy of burying her head in the sand. Obviously, if she wasn't looking at the stranger, the stranger wouldn't be looking at her. If she stared intensely at her plate, perhaps the visitor would magically go away.

......Well, it worked half of the time.

Was it too late to run?

Escaping from an assassin was probably impossible, right?

Lucia was just an ordinary receptionist...

After grabbing some quick lunch I get the stall to pack some food to go as I head to the harbor to wait for Rose. As I'm waiting I summon Harold to keep guard as I check the bag of holding I borrowed from the university for my equipment. I confirm the boxes to take samples as well as an old school camera, a machette and the survival gear are all there.

I wait for about half an hour for Rose. When I call out to her she seems to be a bit surprised at the fact that I'm early. That hurt a bit, did really look like an unreliable guy. Getting back on topic she wanted to discuss each others abilities as she explains that she is really proficient in ice magic. It rather suits her icy personality I comment in my mind as it would no doubt start a fight if I said it out loud. When it's my turn I decide to summon Harold and Dawn as I shown her Dawn's insane strength which gives her a bit of a surprise. Well TBH anyone would be shocked to see a 3ft plush toy moving around and bending a piece of metal with her bear paws(pun intended).

"What is that cute thing?" Rose thought in her mind. She tried to keep her face neutral and tried to ignore it at first. Failing to do both, she ultimately couldn't control herself and picked up the teddy bear.

With the teddy secured in her lap, the duo proceeded to board a ship heading for the great lake. Rose personally would have preferred just riding one of her kin down but the islands had customs for travel that were designed all around slow and not at all safe flying ships. Most of the time spent on the ship was rather boring, the monotony of the descent broken occasionally by her teammate's annoying attempts to take the cute teddy back. Of course, Rose managed to save the teddy from her barbaric teammate's clutches throughout the ride.

When it was close to descending, the ship let its passenger have a nice, relaxing view of the land below. Her teammate was rather excited by the view, almost like a newborn dragon having their first flight. Seeing his excitement, she asked him, "Have you never been to the surface before?"

"Not this surface", I reply to my rude teammate, now look I know she's a good person, I could tell from our interactions that she wasn't really a bad person. It's just that she really needs to get over herself. Now I've seen her type before, one of my classmates used to act like her. She was the daughter of chairman of the high school I used to attend. She was well-behaved and treated everyone politely, but she never saw anyone else as her equal. She eventually got isolated due to her action's and we graduated. Well a few month's after uni started I ran into her again and she was a completely different person, she wasn't really an outgoing person but it seemed as if she was trying to connect with other's alot more. I don't know what magic was used on her but I really need that magic right now.

"Hurry up", she tells me in a impatient tone as she rushes into the ruins. Does she even know what this is quest is about? I wonder to myself as I start taking pictures of the ruins. "Here's some gloves and a mask, wear them", I tell her in a serious manner before she rushes into a bush of bioluminescent berry's " Since wear going to be dealing with some unknown plants, some may cause skin rash if we touch them carelessly".

"No, I'm pretty sure there's just a simple misunderstanding here, and it's nothing to do with butterflies...butterflies...oh, I remember your voice now, Ilya. It's been a while."

She'd heard the name Ilya from that magical butterfly a while back, didn't she?

"Good to see that you're doing fine. Though, pray wait a little while I get this situation under control, or so I'd like to have said, but..."

She had no idea what the other person was thinking by like, at all. The most concrete detail she'd gotten out of it was that the receptionist believed she was here for something nefarious...wait a minute, that was all the information she needed.

Kanon fought the urge to chuckle. What was this, a fantasy novel?

"Well well, how to settle this...ah, I know."

She would return to her seat, but this time Kanon ended up occupying the stool right next to Lucia.

OOC: Do you want our to have an argument for character development or we continue as a quirky kinda get along well together duo. Serious question not trying to be rude. Also my character is a cautious over-preparing type of guy. This time you get to see Harold.

Rose thought that her teammate was just overly cautious. She was not familiar with every plant here but he wanted her to use gloves even for just the common Silverfels. "I guess you otherworlders have never seen a Silverfel bush before. They are perfectly safe, tasty and edible. Infact this ones look ripe and perfect for harvest." She offered a few to her teammate. After collecting and pocketing a decent amount of silverfels, they both proceeded forward.

Continuing, Rose pointed to a nearby fern they had not encountered yet, "Those are Devil's spice. Well that is what everyone prefers calling them anyways. They are, I guess, technically edible and have significant healing properties but it just is not worth it. The painful incurable rash that you will have all over your body after touching it for a few days is not one you would want to experience. I doubt your gloves will protect you from it."

Noticing another bush of Silverfels, Rose went ahead to collect a few more. Just as she was about to start collecting them, she noticed the thorns and stopped. "I hate these ones." Checking her hand, "It still managed to sting me." Seeing her teammates bewildered look, she explained, "These are Redfels, also known as Bloodthorns, and a number of other obscenities. They look practically the same as Silverfels, except they have small thorns that suck blood from anyone that tries to go for the berries. They taste okayish I guess? They are mostly used for making wine."

"I am not familiar with plants but these ones are sort of common sense" she told to her teammate as she watched him go towards an unfamiliar plant.

"I see your point, but unless most plant in this world glow, these plant's are probably mutated version's of the one's you know. We don't know if there will be some other changes compared to the normal version of these plants, so it's still better to be cautious.", I say as I ask Harold to collect some cuttings of the devil spice, since he's inorganic, he is safely able to collect the plant. The plant would be useful if we manage to extract the healing properties out of it.

"So, you're a diplomat from this world?", I ask her as she shows a surprised face. "How did you know" She asks as her expression slowly turns grim. " You know the common knowledge of this world as well as a local of this world would, since it's only been two weeks since the islands came to this world only three types of people would come to the islands, diplomats, spies and academics and maybe also some refugees. But you don't seem like a spy or a researcher and have proper paper's unlike a refugee so by the process of elimination you are a diplomat." I state my brilliant deduction, feeling a little proud of myself for being right.

Laughing at her teammate's super proud face, "Yup, I am part of a diplomat team." Rose said as they moved towards the ruins. "It is not exactly a secret you know?", she continued. "You guys kind of dropped in out of nowhere, and diplomats are required to quell any possible chaos that might erupt."

"Also Silverfels and Redfels do glow. Devil's spice doesnt but neither is this one glowing, all three are normal."

"Just cause it isn't a secret, doesn't mean it isn't fun to come to the conclusion on your own", I tell my teammate as she's laughing. "Also you forgot to think about how alien this world is to the people of the islands and otherworlder's like me. We still have to deal with the fear of the unknown. Plus I harvested the devil spice cause it would be useful if some of the professor's could extract it's healing properties."

"Barkeep, give me a cut of meat. Ilya, do you want anything?"

Lucia... shivered at the mention of a cut of meat.

Moreover now the assassin was sitting next to her!

Her nerves completely vanished.

Her stale bread untouched (they were cut neatly into 1-inch squares), Lucia bolted for the door. She left her plate at the bar and didn't even pay...

"...Well, so much for communication. No matter. Ilya, the seeds will get stale if you don't eat them now."

Shrugging, Kanon sat and started on her own meal. The steak wasn't bad in any sense of the word, but the taste was still remarkably different, and that drew a frown from her.

"Bit by bit, the cooking at home's ruined me, huh. I don't even think I could survive off the wild anymore...oh, well. It can't be helped! Bwahahaha!"

Evidently, someone already had a bit to drink.
