Welcome to our first BLBL Short Story Anthology! \(*o*)/

Our group, the Brilliant Library of Boys' Love – or for short BLBL – is hosting its first event for the BL community on SH: a collaborative anthology of short stories about Boys' Love! All the BL enthusiasts are invited to try their hand in it! ^^

The Anthology will release on our group's official SH account here –

The theme is going to be season-related:

With the sub-theme of “First Love” if you can do both.

You are free to interpret the themes in any way you want as long as it's season-related (so, Springtime) and not a “springcoil thrown in the air” in case you were wondering, weirdo ♡.



The submission period will run from January 1st to March 1st, with the Completed Anthology beginning to release on March 30th.



All stories will have to be submitted on March 1st at the latest to allow for the revisions to be made and finalized before the Anthology comes out. The edits and revisions will be accepted up to March 15th, and after that time, no submissions can come through.

Submission Rules

1. The story must be an original piece of fiction, previously unpublished and unrelated to other works. So no fanfiction, AUs, spinoffs, prequels, or sequels of your existing stories, please.



2. Before your story is published in the BLBL Anthology, you cannot post it anywhere else either. You can publish it afterward from your own account, but not before our Anthology (and your story in particular) is released.



3. Multiple entries are permitted, but they cannot have relations to one another.



4. Our word count guidelines are 1000 words – 7,500 words, but the second value is not a hard rule.



Thus, no stories below 1000 words will be accepted, but stories above 7,500 will be – even though we would prefer those that stay within these guidelines for the ease of reading experience.



All stories will be published as “one chapter”, which is a hard rule.



(So no “two-parters” in separate chapters, please).



5. The dates of closing first submissions and revised submissions are defined by International Dateline:



– the last date and time for accepting the first submissions is 1st March, 23:59 UTC +14;

– the last date and time for accepting the revised versions is 15th March, 23:59 UTC +14.



6. All submissions will have to be sent to this profile or to the main account of our BLBL Group on SH – @BL_Palace. Here these accounts are:

7. You can send it raw through the PMs, or by sending us a link to a Google Doc – whichever method you prefer.



8. When submitting, please specify under which author's name you wish to publish the story and the title of your piece. Also give us the link to your account(s) here on SH or SHF to be put at the end along with the rest of the Author's Info.



9. There are no formatting rules, but if you are going to use some LitRPG formatting, please take care of it before submitting the story. The organizers of the Anthology won't be able to work out your formatting for you (not because we are mean, but because we are dummies and have no idea what LitRPG formatting even is, most of the time. Forgive us (;-_-)ノ).



10. All Author's Notes for the stories are welcome and appreciated, so you can send them along with the story – with the guidelines of where to put them. By default, all Author's Notes are put at the end of the story, but we will move it if you think it fits better at the beginning.



11. Pictures can be accepted as part of the submission, but make sure the picture is not stolen artwork. Likewise, if it will be featured in your story, it can only be featured separately from it, in Author's Notes and put under the clickable Spoiler tag to hide it. No NSFW or “Content Warning” pictures, please (no gore, too).



12. Character Theater and other jokes and small Fanfic/AUs related to the story in question are also acceptable. Just note that it has to be related to the story you publish and not to your other stories outside of it!



13. You can market or promote your other stories in your Author's Notes, but please don't overdo it and make your promotion bigger than one-two sentence or anything you tell about the actual Short Story you gave us. This Anthology is all about promoting our BL Authors, but don't overdo it ^^. If you said less about your Short Story in the Anthology than about advertising your other books, then you are doing it wrong! ╮ (. ❛ _ ❛.) ╭



14. If your story features Content Warnings, please provide them along with the story (we will publish them as you provide them when we release your story).



15. You can withdraw your submission at any time, even after the final edits. But not after it is published in the Anthology.



Though if you one day want it to be removed from the already-published Anthology, you would have to message us about it directly with the justification for this drastic measure. We prefer that you didn't, but we can understand if your life circumstances may demand this change.

Content Rules

°•. ✿ .•°​

1. No “no homo”.



Boys' Love should be the main element of your story. It has to feature at least two men in a ~romantic relationship with one another, and one of these men should be the protagonist of the story.

Thus, just having two boys hang out together “as friends” wouldn't count as a Boys' Love story. There has to be the minimum representation of love for it to be seen as “more than friendship” if you want your story to qualify.



Bromance and “no homo” friendship =/= Boys' Love.



Occasional flirting that leads nowhere and can be omitted from the story without losing anything, or BL between side characters does not count either.





2. No rape. No incest. No pedo.



2.1. We appreciate dark themes and topics, but for this specific Anthology, please refrain from using them. Rape can be discussed as a topic (negatively), but there can be no plot events stemming from rape and no actual depictions of rape within this Anthology.



Non-con falls under this rule automatically, while dub-con will be subject to revisions if it borders on non-con. Dub-con is not a strict rule due to there being many layers of dub-con interactions between couples that are on the spectrum of “an innocent kiss on the cheek without asking” to “sorry, this is rape now”, and we leave the authors a lot leeway in exploring these topics – but with the assumption that the authors will not abuse this “soft rule” to squeeze some truly disturbing material into the Anthology.



2.2. No incest, please.



2.3. Both your characters in question have to be above 18 years old for any erotic/NSFW interactions in your story to qualify for our Anthology.



If your character is 1000 years old but looks like a little boy, that still counts as “pedo” for our Anthology's guidelines. So please refrain from using this loophole.



All stories that abuse any of these three rules (“No rape, no incest, no pedo”) will be rejected. Please be careful if you want to toy with these.





3. GenderBender is okay as long as the transformation is “female to male” and only in conjunction with the Transgender tag. So no forced GenderBender on MCs who do not identify as male at any point in the story since that would disqualify the story from being BL (it would just be a heterosexual romance instead).





4. No illegal sex acts. Necrophilia, bestiality, etc.





5. Tragedy or Bad Ending are okay as long as the Tragedy is not about being gay. So please, don't “straighten up” your characters and don't force them apart due to one of them unable to accept their gayness. If you want your story to be a Tragedy, make the topic of it anything other than the character's sexual orientation, please. Out Anthology is about celebrating homosexuality, not about showing how tragic it can be.





6. No PWP (“Porn Without Plot” or “Plot? What Plot?”) stories. Not because we don't appreciate those, but because SH guidelines state that the site does not like such stories.





7. We reserve ourselves the right to refuse submission to any story that abuses the loopholes in the rules, especially the “No Rape, No Pedo” ones.

I have a set of characters I'd like to write for this, but they're part of a bigger cast that I'd like to expand on in the pretty far future (2022+, I only have so much energy to write heh).
