Quest Report - Appraised
Playing with a black rose in my hand, I went to the most extravagant tavern in the Spire Reef and ordered a private room all for myself and some pirates I took as my guards. The table inside was filled with various goods, including boozes of high quality and food some pirates had never seen before. Of course, there were no lacks of prostitutes, including both male and female. They wore revealing clothes while dancing and seducing everyone in the room.
If anyone wanted, they could pick and choose them then went to the inner chambers to relieve themselves, as the privilege of the VIP room. Of course, without my permission, none of the pirates dared to act too vulgar, and would only touch and caress, but no stripping.
Waiting, I did not touch any feast and silently closed my eyes, allowing the pirates to have time to relax and taste the goods. The voice of the prostitutes echoed the room, filling it with a lewd atmosphere. The fragrance of both perfumes and food lingered and mixed together, creating a calm yet chaotic vibe to the room.
Sometime after, I could feel the sounds died down, and the chaos subsided. A series of footsteps resounded from the outside, before the door was knocked. I remained seated and still, waiting for the expected noise.
At least, a creak rang, and the door became ajar. Followed by a series of screams and panic, before falling into the absolute silence again. The air was filled with a new scent, the bloody fragrance. The melodic voices were gone, and only the strange vibe of the VIP room remained. The muttering noises of the pirates faded, and the only sounds of footsteps came to an end, in front of me.
"Slivery Witch, greeting to you, the new rising star of the Spire Reef..." As I opened my eyes, my vision was greeted with a bloody scene of corpses and gore. Three figures stood in front of me, covered in crimson shade, seemingly bent in with the blood in the room perfectly.
Letting the black flower on my hand fell, I observed the figure in the middle, indicating that he was the leader. He was also the man whom I saw during my escape from the Spectre Plunderer and the Terror Mermaid. I knew that he would come, that why I waited here.
"... So, what is your purpose for coming here?" I asked, not caring about the death of the pirates I brought with. After all, they were simply lowly crew members, and could be replaced at a whim.
"Miss Luna, do you desire greater fame and wealth? Don't you think that Misty Puppeteer was dragging you down?" Not answering my question, the man in the middle instead asked me. He took the lead and I followed his lead, letting him take control over the flow of the conversation. The illusion of authority was set.
"Who in Spire Reef does not believe in wealth? It's just that they don't really satisfy me, after becoming so strong, none of these ordinary things doesn't please me anymore." I answered, knowing full well of their intention and purpose. However, to exploit them, intentional weakness and confusion were necessary.
"What about the death of these pirates? Do they amount to nothing in your eyes?" Holding the head with a terrified expression, the man continued to question me.
"Merely trashes, not worth my attention. Anyone, not witches and shamans, was merely cannon fodders." Silent ensured after my arrogant tone and sentence. In their eyes, I should be a tyrannical figure, aiming high while disregarding moral and friendships. Exactly as they wanted.
The silence continued for a while, before one of the other two flashed and disappeared, before appearing in front of me with a knife placing just right near my neck. If he pressed it gently, then it would slide across my blood vein, and death would likely come to claim me, if I was merely a normal pirate, that is.
A surprised and terrified expression surfaced from my face. I forcefully contracted my eyes and took a step backwards, letting sweats formed on my face. I even looked at the figure in disbelieve and confusion.
"As expected, just barely passable. Little witch, you think that you're so good, huh? Maybe you are a little famous among the trash, but to us, you're merely a slightly bigger ant!" The man retracted his knife and walked back to stand behind the leader, smiling in satisfaction after witnessing my arrogance turned to fear.
"Barely passable is still a pass— Here, take it and look at it after you're prepared. If you really intend to rise above the mountain of trash, then come to us. The Pirate King would never mistreat the talented, on the condition that you are a talented one, of course." Dropping a greyish letter on the blood-soaked floor, the man turned back and slowly made his way out of the VIP room.
My shocked face, lingered around for a long time, made the trio smiled. They thought that I was surprised at the invitation, and feared the name of the Seven Pirate Kings.
Picking the letter up, I made my way out of the VIP room. To my surprise, the entire tavern was silent. It was only apparent to me after walking to the main hall, that the trio had killed everyone in here, except me. Only this moment did I realise that the Seven Pirate Kings were even more cruel and sadistic than their rumours suggested.
