20,000 is a practical goal in a week.
If I really, really try I can do about 30,000 to 50,000 words in 3 days.
But I have to really want it,and also have a bit of planning.

Also, 20,000 words...is a light novel, story or short story territory.
I'm not so sure using the word chapter is really all that appropriate at that point.

Not quite sure how I ended up here, but after skimming through I just want to say, in my experience, most of the discussion about the stories themselves seem to happen on the main site, like in my story there have been several comments and I've chatted with a few people there about aspects of the story.

As far as writing discussion on the forum goes, I've mainly hung out in the Author forums and I've seen lots of discussion about writing and people asking or advice and various things. That was what many of my first posts were in fact.

There is also the fact, not everyone who would comment can read everything they would like to, I have a huge backlog already. It's likely you're only going to realistically receive comments from either very passionate people or very upset people, that's just how humanity is, unfortunately, we're often driven to action by strong emotions.

The lighthearted stuff seems to take place randomly spread around as far as I've been able to tell in the few weeks I've been here. There seems to be a lot of chatter on profiles too, way more than I've seen on other forums if they even had profiles to comment on. Not like I've been posting silly things on people's profiles when I mean to be writing. :blob_whistle:
A big problem I had was that NO ONE was reading my story even though they claimed to, or that they would eventually. You probably didn't even realize that I deleted my story because you didn't even bother to click on the fucking link.

@Freesia.Cutepearl watched as TheGuyThatEveryoneHates returned to the land of the living. She gazed upon her hands... the power still crackled and pulse from her fingertips,

"I did it... it's... ne.cro.man.cy... "

It was like the world answered her... like a cursed void with her as the epicentre, the life was drained from the earth beneath her feet! The grass died! The trees withered! And the soil darkened!

She felt her veins swelled with the power over life and death as the energies raged through her body! Then....as if she was in a trance... she spoke.

"Is this what's it's like?... What is t like to be a GOD?!"

Lighting and thunder lanced through the clouds impaling the landscape like spears of light tearing up the world!

Scribble Hub welcomed its newest death god.

I'm amazed that I took some time off from this forum, and when I returned no one else had posted a chapter discussion thread here. Personally, my theory is that, whether the people here realize it or not, this forum might not be a very fun place to hang out and chat. I know that I certainly didn't feel encouraged to contribute to discussion, and I feel as though people simply view these forums as a place to promote their work or pass judgment on the works of others. I'm sure there are exceptions, there are friendly chats going on, and there are fun threads. But, in general, I don't think that this section of the site has a particularly inviting atmosphere, and I think that the sooner that gets acknowledged, the sooner that we can work to change that with introspection.

But, anyways, this is THE chapter, the mammoth chapter, the most controversial chapter in my story. If you thought that the previous chapters with 10000+ word lengths were too much, when I'm sure most people would say that 500-4000 should be the ideal length of a chapter, then you'll find this chapter offensive in many ways. The entire story is strange, and definitely not anything like what you're used to reading, or expecting to read. This chapter isn't really anything special within the story, aside from having the death of a major character, and being so exceptionally long. Only one chapter really comes close to it, at 18000 words, but that number isn't quite as eye-catching. So, I decided to post a few more chapters for the few readers I have not from this forum before I posted it here.

Yeah, uh, if you can't tell, I'm quite stoned. Bye! I'll post again when I post another chapter, or I might not post at all. We'll see.

I deleted my story because you didn't even bother to click on the fucking link
Jokes aside...

I did read your story tho, some of it I think... I remember trying to do so, because there was not much to do at the time, and you were quite distressed, about something... but mostly I read it for curiosity sake. I recalled just reaching the aforementioned twenty-thousand-word chapter to find there was a part two on the page...

The rule and law-abiding part of me questioned the validity of claiming to be a twenty-thousand-word chapter if it could be classed as two or more chapter just posted as one...

While I was still sorting out how I felt about it, It was at this junction in time, you said you'd delete your novel. At which point I stopped reading.

And now looking back I probably could have read your draft... since was still fully available online

But ultimately decided against it since well... it was deleted. Anyway, to answer, Was anyone reading your story? I can't say for others but I tried to but before I could finish it, it was gone.

So the answer is both yes and no.

I am unsure if that what you wanted to hear tho.

I don't remember much of anything about this at all. Maybe it was all a dream?

I didn't realize I necro'd anything.
(Is a month a necro, when the forum is so slow the posts at the bottom of the listing have dates reaching back to January?)
I'll admit, I don't really check past the first page on the list of posts.

Also, I apologize TheGuyThatEveryoneHates, you're right, I didn't go to read it, because if I'm going to seriously read/critique/etc something I feel like I need to be in the proper mindset, and have the time to dedicate to it.

I still have things I want to catch up on for people, an example that comes to mind is a reply Queenfisher made to a post of mine well over a week ago now. I have yet to look at the information she posted, and digest it to give a meaningful response.

You seem really upset and I hope that you can feel happier soon. I didn't mean to make anything worse, I was hoping to help by replying in the short term to some of the things I thought I could speak to.

Maybe I should have included a notice that I wasn't trying to critique your story, honestly, at the time I had made the post, and hell even now, I still feel like anything I could say regarding writing is of mediocre value at best.

Based on what I said before, I think, I was trying to address things that seemed to have bothered you. The main one which you re-iterated here about people not reading your story, I am assuming you wanted comments here on the forum? If not then disregard this, but, as I said previously, it's been my experience the vast majority of discussion from readers takes place on the comments of the story itself?

I'm sad to see that you deleted your story by the way. I hope that you will give things another shot.

Oh, and as for feedback on the forums, I've found through experimentation, that it seems like the most meaningful conversation comes from asking more specific questions. It seems like a trend that the broader the target is, ie "review my work/chapter/etc" the harder it is to get good or consistent feedback.

This has also been working quite well on my chapters, by asking a poll question every chapter, about certain things, I can get a lot of feedback from people who normally don't comment.

Originally I had a vague question, of if they were enjoying things, but lately, I've been trying more specific questions and the response seems good.

I wish you well and hope that you can find happiness and be able to continue to write your story. Good luck!

P.S. @Generic.Archdemon
Your dialog is all wrong for me.
I wouldn't be like,
"I did it... it's... ne.cro.man.cy... "
I'd be more like...
Freesia cackled in a manner befitting a seasoned witch at the thrill and madness of it all, "Hah haha HA I- I did it...? Ah- hah! HAH HA- I- I fucking did it?! Necro... mother-fucking mancy? Ha haa haaaa~!"

Would you read and comment if I posted it again?

Actually, would you tell me what you thought of it?

Edit: That wasn't 'part 2' it was 'Chapter 2'. In that chapter, one of the characters is writing a story. That's what you were reading, the character's story, just out-of-order. So, you'd read chapter 2 first, then chapter 1, then chapter 3, then chapter 4. That's mainly why it was so long.

Enticing readers to read your story goes both ways, my man. First question people would have is: why should I read your 20k word chapter?

Also ayyy, welcome back. You returned during my second temp ban

Unlikely, the fist time was for curiosity, with that satiated, I have little to gain by spending time on it.

Will I comment on or say anything about it?
Probably not, I only really rate on the main site, and I never leave a comment.

It is interesting to know the mechanics of the chapter and why it ends up so long. As for my thought on your book as a whole, your style and narrative techniques. I am keeping those for myself. I only share my opinions when I feel like it. And I actively refuse to part take in any system that involves in some kind "good reader /writer" point structure.

I am only on the forum to say funny things, and try to say things in ways that would amuse myself, selfishly. These things to do with appearances I will not engage in. And as far as this comment goes, it mainly that get to say "good reader/writer point system".

Since to me... and probably to me only and a few others, it seems like such a strange and exotic idea. and I still have no idea how people cash it in, what value people gain from it... but oh well, its the internet.

But that is all I have to say about that.

So, what you're saying is that only people who are worthy of your amazing opinions can receive your comments on their stories. No one is worthy, so you always keep silent.

Side note, though. You're still focused on the good reader/writer points. Why? Do you want them? Do you really want people to see you as a good reader?

Because, like, basically what I meant by it is virtue-signalling. The people who 'did'read your story, who read every story, but never commented so you can't prove/disprove their claim. The people who are desperate to be seen as 'good' by people online because of their insecurity.

I feel that more than most, especially here where the top rated stories are things like "I woke up and I was a sexy lady, uwu," and "Lesbian harem, lol." Kinda demoralizing, ya know. Makes you wonder why the site just doesn't drop.the pretense and label themselves as a site for porn writing, which would probably make it more popular, honestly.

hmmm... I am not sure what you mean... :blob_hmm_two: :blob_hmm_two:

you wanted people to read your story, I did. you want me to read it again, I said no. thats all there is to it...

hmm... worthy of my amazing opinion... hmm I wonder, I never thought about it that way... I always thought I was lazy... but your way sounds better. so sure I am stealing that regardless if its true :blobrofl:

all the things you are saying is too clever and to complicated for some one like me. I just do jokes and puns.

so long stroy short, yes, i have better things to do. you and your current story simply hold no interest for me.

any way good luck, with all that stuff. may be if you ever write something else we can talk then.

You weren't going to read my story anyway, so, that's not a big deal to me.

You know, if what you said was true, you read more than 100k words of my story, yet you have no opinion to share, you didn't leave a rating, and you didn't leave a comment.

That's kinda shitty, now that I think about it. 100k words, man, and you don't even want to read the ending or tell me what you thought of those 100k words that you read.

especially here where the top rated stories are things like "I woke up and I was a sexy lady, uwu," and "Lesbian harem, lol."

Those novels reached trending because people like to read them, it's what they want to read, that's all there is to it. You don't have to shit on the site and the novels on trending just because people like to read those stuff. If you're bitter that no one reads/comments on your story then maybe you should write about things that the current readers find interesting? As of late it's more on fantasy smut.

I personally will not write just for the sake of getting readers. I have my job and school to worry about, so I only write for a hobby about the things I enjoy writing. If the novels I write click with readers then I'm happy, if they don't then that's up to them, I'll still continue writing it because I enjoy writing it. People have different tastes, people will not always want to read complicated stuff, deal with it.

Would you say that I am part of what makes SHF a toxic community? I mean what I am doing is pretty shitty... I mean outright abominable the absolute worst even!

I'd almost say I am the type of guy that makes the world a terrible place!
You're more of an NPC, honestly.

Like, you'll be willing to spend hours debating me here, digging through my past comments to find my old draft that I posted, but you aren't willing to... be positive? To have left a comment or rating on my story? To say something nice here?

Why are you willing to put so much effort into defending your laziness as though it's your most valued trait? Why did you read 100k words of my novel and yet won't tell me your opinion of it beyond "I quit reading it."?

Actually, yeah, you are pretty toxic.
