For me, there are so, so many, but the most recent has to be when lewd scenes take a sledgehammer to a character's personality. It can be either a contrived lead up to the act or the complete erasure of their personhood after they join a harem. Both are distressingly common.

The fact is that lust fundamentally rapes one's character so it is unrealistic to wish the best out of a character, nor that of a person who has fallen into the depravity.
Stereotypes as characters
Stereotypes exist for a reason though, it is almost always that these stereotypes exist and perpetuate because they are true.

Oh sure, but unless the character is absolutely mindbroken (which can be built up to in an interesting way) it just kills it for me. There are indeed moments of passion, but the usual stuff goes beyond that to the point of feeling absolutely contrived. That's the kind of stuff that makes me throw up my arm bones.

Disagree vehemently on the stereotypes though. Especially when the stereotype is the beginning and end of the character.

The character or the person doesn't even have to be mind broken since getting lost in one's passion is a betrayal of one's fundamental character.

Yeah, they exist because they are true, generally speaking. But a character doesn't have to be just that. It can be more than meets the eye.

Ye. Standard moment of passion one night stands do happen and people do get ye olde brainrot. But when you have a character that aspires to be the greatest thief/mage/whatever or has a business or farm or family obligations that they have a track record of minding for the entire story up to the point where they get bedded and all of a sudden they only cling to the harem protag's arm and all of their development stops it's a solid no for me.

Where did their ambitions go? Why aren't they thinking about or even mentioning their family/friends/work left behind if even to spite their old life before they got so enamored with the protag? Especially dumb when the harem protag is either the doormat or pseudo alpha male archetype that also has absolutely nothing going for them.

Actually, the kind of protags that get isek'ied with nothing going for them but a stupid amount of power would realistically help their love interest(s) with their personal goals or get absorbed in their politics if they aren't actively trying to stake out on their own if their love interest(s) are not just booty calls, but we don't see much of that. The world just warps and a bunch of stuff doesn't exist in the narrative anymore because it gets smothered by egregious, gratuitous, personality erasing smut. If you're going to do that don't bother trying to present your story as anything other than just porn.

There is a market for that and it's valid and whatever but don't promise me a good story with erotic elements then throw it all away for the latter. Just say it's porn.

If you care so little about your character's actual lives, why should I?

Love triangles where the protagonist has to choose just one instead of choosing both.
Based. Also similar situations where an open relationship/polycule seeker (usually male) is so insecure that they only tolerate the dozens of love interests having an attraction for them and them alone. That isn't an open relationship, it's just a harem, and past three members you're probably neglecting a few if you're not okay with them seeing other people.

You're telling me princess #42 that hasn't had a chapter dedicated to her in the last twenty updates isn't going to feel a kind of way? Nah fam. Unless you're just freezing them and unthawing them when you want them.

Anything lewd.

On the real though, mostly none. I usually try to finish whatever I start and reserve my complaints until the very end of the novel where everything is revealed so I can make a more objective judgement on the scenes/tropes/devices used. Sometimes the protagonist is gonna eat shit and things are gonna go absolutely horribly, but that doesn't mean the story automatically sucks ass. As rushed as Gwitch was, it did get a happy ending despite everyone shitting themselves during that particular arc.

Harems. Especially the ones that start out of nowhere or throw the MC into a functioning group he suddenly takes over, most of the time for no apparent reason outside being the MC. The basic premise that a group of MC-sexual beings big enough to fill at least five generations of pokedexes has never meaningful internal strife or falling-outs alone is as realistic as Putin or Atomic Kim winning the Nobel Peace Prize... No need to add even more unrealistic situations.

So. Much. This.

If your character is doing bad things, they're doing bad things. Excepting stuff like an unreliable narrator, the story shouldn't be trying to present Alex Mcboils Babies Alive as a stand up guy because the babies are demon babies or the reincarnation of the evil of the week or something. HE BOILS BABIES.

I'm looking at you, Redo of the Healer influences. As crappy as the source is, it at least doesn't try to make him look like a good guy for it.

A promise of making the protag into a monster/ god with unchecked power through training (training is important, means the character must earn through some hardwork) but then... no suitable target to unleash that power on. And when I say unleash, I mean kill and maim, until it's done.

poorly written tearjerkers or shock scenes (also if poorly done)
surprisingly, I can stomach shock scenes pretty well when they have a good & necessary reason to be there
such as Aku no Kyouten where, spoilers for the ending: the teacher kills all 30 of his students to bury his crimes
on the other hand, Juujika no Rokunin or Boy's Abyss ain't it for me

I hate stories that read like I’m playing Street Fighter 1. Stories like ‘we have to defeat the 8 demon generals’ and all they do is go through the list, defeating enemy 1, then defeating enemy 2, then 3 and so on. If your story has the same plot structure as a 90s arcade cabinet its not a good story.
