An idea shamelessly sto--Er I mean, inspired by Minacia's recent posts. You are a Hero in a stereotypical Isekai situation, and are given the chance to create a Waifu or Husbando to your specifications. How would that go?

1) What situation would you gain said companion in? For example. Taking a loyal friend instead of a cheat skill from the god, reward wish for beating the Demon King, using the same reward wish to turn the Demon King into an ally/love slave, etc.

2) What would your companion's gender be? Male, Female, Hermaphrodite, Trap, etc.

3) What race would you make your companion? Human, Elf, Beastkin, etc.

4) What would their general appearance be? Slim, athletic, muscular, busty, loli, black hair, red hair, etc etc etc.

5) What sort of personality would you assign them? Serious, flirtatious, loyal, any of the Dere types, etc.

6) What skills would you give them to start? Specific rules. Five random basic skills, three specifically assigned basic skills, two random unique skills, or one designer unique skill. Ignore question if it's a case of turning an enemy with an existing power set into an ally or similar situation.

7) What will you and your companion do? Defeat the Demon King/future Demon Kings, Live a quiet life, become powerful adventurers but ignore the DK, etc.

(My answers)
1) Reward wish, turning the demon king into my waifu.
2) Feminine Hermaphrodite. Gotta have the best of both~
3) Succubus Catgirl? Succubus Catgirl.
4) Athletic, leaning towards a bit of a girly tomboy look. Probably dark hair with heterochromia, one silver eye, one violet eye.
5) Loyal light Tsundere who expresses her irritation via biting. Prone to being a Domme in private, but kinda maid-like subservience otherwise.
6) N/A
7) Take over the world in the former Demon King's place. Probably leverage the fact that the Demon King serves me now to use her old domain and allies to launch my own conquest.

Ooooh. Well now. Since I went for Tomboy as a feature of her looks, I gotta go with a Wild cat. Maybe a Lynx, Caracal, or Serval? Some midsized wild cat anyway.

5. Friendly and badass yet awkward, teasable, somewhere around dandere, loyal, caring. Probably an Emilia or Asuna type(?)
6. idk, depends on the setting I guess. Since it's an Isekai, probably a mage or a cleric skillset.
7. Traveling in adventures and being an emotional anchor

Hmm, I think for me, the idea of a lover I created (or forced through mind-control or similar) somehow doesn't appeal to me as much because the idea of someone wanting me for me sits very high on my sexy list. Like, I wanted to be wanted, and designing a lover who is programmed to "want" me sort of feels like a cheap imitation.

Or to put it another way, I dislike the idea of having a lover that panders to me or is subservient to me.

If anything, I'm definitely way more of a sub lolololol.

I kind of prefer one that I can admire from afar and generally have zero control over because he's off doing his own thing and has his own interests. Occasionally, he might give me attention, but other than that he he's busy with his own passions, and I would generally like him for his passions for something else.

To give an example...

1. After being isekai'd, I get hired as an entry-level receptionist at a guild doing paperwork. I develop crush on the Guildmaster (for lots of various reasons including being attractive), who generally doesn't notice me and certainly doesn't like me. He's a very hard worker and I'm amazed by the amount of dedication he puts into everything he does as well as his ideals. I would work next to him as his colleague, go through a lot of experiences, and quietly simmer in my one-sided crush. If this were a story, I would probably never confess to him for the entire novel.

2. I tend to prefer guys.

3. Oh... tall and big... but not too tanky. Going with a beastkin (i.e. werewolf, tiger) or demon is an excellent way to get a body profile that's super tall without making them too weird. Like, I also kind of like average guys, and it's not really that appealing to go with a human body-builder who tries too hard to get a certain physique, so a species that can naturally be kind of big without them trying is great.

4. Tall. Not too muscular, but not skinny either. I'm partial to fluff so I can definitely go for fluffy tails or ears. They would be fun to play with.

5. Hmm... it's a trope, but serious/focused on the outside (or when working), but relaxed and even a little vulnerable when off the job. It's really great when they have hidden soft sides.

6. Oh... I like swords so... xD Tbh, I kind of hate magicians. I feel like if this were my isekai story, I feel like it would be interesting to go down the martial arts path (barehand/sword/polearm) because I did some of that in college. So something like a martial arts / sword duo kind of appeals to me.

7. Well, the ML is a guildmaster, and I would be an ordinary employee. After some months in this isekai universe, the guild might get some internal jobs (i.e. search and rescue, negotiations, important things), and assuming that I somehow get strong enough, I would sometimes get chosen to accompany the guildmaster as an escort/bodyguard/assistant.

You put a lotta thought into that. Nice. Anyway, I'm pretty submissive myself, but I wouldn't mind building a character to like me. Not sure how to explain myself on it, but I guess it's just a quirk of mine. Maybe I have a weird God Complex? Sounds unhealthy. I especially like the idea of a partner that I'm technically more powerful than, that I still submit to anyways. That aside, the setup should only be the start of their character, they could always change over time. So, if my Demon King waifu decides to turn the tables and fully take charge but still keep me around, I, probably wouldn't complain.

I receive the companion as a sentient and semi-conscious crystal.

Initially the companion in crystal/juvenile/egg-like form will have no gender or biological sex.

3) What race would you make your companion? Human, Elf, Beastkin, etc.
4) What would their general appearance be? Slim, athletic, muscular, busty, loli, black hair, red hair, etc etc etc.
5) What sort of personality would you assign them? Serious, flirtatious, loyal, any of the Dere types, etc.

I would not be responsible for choosing their race, appearance, or personality. Instead the crystal will share my senses and all thoughts, be able to parse my memories, and gather some additional information about the surrounding environment. Once enough time has passed they would gain full consciousness and their chosen ability/skill will awaken.

I would give them one designer unique skill known as constrained metamorphosis. They will be given the ability to metamorphose regularly. The constraint will be that changes will take time, opposing features cannot be chosen, and only 1 feature can be added or removed at a time on an interval of about 1 month - 10 years. Larger changes take more time.

7) What will you and your companion do? Defeat the Demon King/future Demon Kings, Live a quiet life, become powerful adventurers but ignore the DK, etc.

I have no idea what we would do together. It's something we should decide together. Perhaps they don't even want to be together and will just leave me. I don't even know what they would mean to me, or what our relationship would be described as.

The entire premise was meant to be answered in the second manner. Good on you for having the self control to turn it around for a legitimate personal companion instead of a wish fulfillment partner. That said, your execution for your companion reminds me of the egg from Yu Yu Hakusho that became Yuskuke's Spirit Beast "Pu".

5. He would, of course, act like his age, I mean he could be hundreds of years old. Mature and intellectual on the outside, but once you get to know him, he would tease you sometimes. He may seem he doesn't really care about you, because he only watches you from far away while you handle fights or conflicts on your own. But once you're about to fall down, he would swoop in and protectively keep you in his arms. Taking over as he watches over you with worrisome eyes.

6. Kitsunes are yokais and they work with flames a lot (I'm just assuming this fact from watching Kamisama Kiss). So he would be able to control flames with yokai powers, so that's it I guess

7. It was his job to accompany me to achieve what was written in the contract, like a mentor or partner. Most of all, build a stronger bond between the both of us as time passes. And finally, became the best of the current challenge we faced in (can be the deity build for some land, or maybe a ruler of some sorts)
