Sooooo, some of you may know me others not. Hello, hello!

The reason I started this thread is because I’m in need of dire help. So, I kind of been offered a position as a writer for an “Adult” game. I discussed everything with them, all was good until they asked for my rates. Now here’s the thing, I never wrote anything for a game, so I don’t know how much I should he asking for.

I don’t want to low-ball myself, nor do I want to high-ball it. They seem pretty impressed with my work so far, so at least there’s that. So my fellow degenerates, how much is a good rate?

Ask yourself what's the minimum you would accept, knowing how much time you would spend on this and double it, then negociate it lower with them to see where they stand.

But most adult games don't pays too well when they are new, because they usually don't have a fanbase (look at patreons on the quoted above forum) so maybe you can negociate a percentage or something depending on how much of the writing you are in charge of.

That’s where the dev come from…

I think I saw some rates going for 2 - 5 cents per word. Though, I don't know how accurate that is.
that honestly sounds a lot assuming this is a dating sim-like game.

If its a normal porn game, then that is very reasonable
Its an RPG/Fantasy/A lot of kinky stuff…type of game… buut heeey its still fantasy so I think it should be fun.

ah, i see. then your rate should be a bit lower because of how RPGs have tons of dialouge. i think a few dollars for a 1000 words should be nice

1-3 cents per word probably. Though talk to them about their budget to see what they can afford. If it seems reasonable then go for it. This is just my opinion though.

You didn't drop the name
Either name of the game(if it's already in development and is posted on f95) or name of dev would be appreciated

It really depends on the size of the game and their budget and also your experience. You can find good adult content writers for 2ct/word without a problem but most of them are freelancers for short pieces, so their rates also include all the stuff outside the writing of one single scene. In general, longer sessions become less expensive/word.

That said, long-term work is generally done through hourly wages as editing/rewriting and communication/discussions will take up big parts of the workflow. So going on a word by word basis doesn't really cover your work in both ways. It's too expensive for the amount of filler stuff but not enough money for the overall workload.

$5 per 200 words. If they're a small visual novel game studio, they won't be able to afford much more than this.

But still, ask yourself how much could you comfortably work on within an hour, and charge based on that, where you take into account the per hour wage in your country. If your currency value is lower than america, dont charge following american fee. You want something that works for you.

I charge a sliding scale. If I like you, 6 cents a word. If I don't, or it's a rush job, 12. I also am a ghost writer, so you don't get my name. You want my name on your project, I charge a FUCK TON MORE. You can't afford my name. I don't care if it is or isn't worth it. You cannot fix your reputation. I recommend, charge 6 a word with the following:

You are buying my work. You own it. You don't get my name. I just walk away and you can do whatever you want with it. Rewrite the whole thing, I don't care. I am selling you the product. If I have my name on your project, it needs to be good. So I GET FINAL SAY. Nothing I write gets published without my approval. You don't like that rule? Then you don't get my name and I am just ghost writing for you.

I sold my name without that rule once.

I regret it to this day.

If you want to be able to point to something and say you wrote it, I'd actually take the opposite route. It depends on what you are writing and if it aligns with your values and what direction you want your career path to take, though.

Bruh if that's true I'll write the next Nekopara game. Give me the script I'll turn it into an eroge epic on the scale of Lord of Rings.
I'm with you. Why do you think there are so many Nekopara games? Heck, that's all the Fate series was for a while, an eroge epic on the scale of Lord of the rings.
