I'll give you a little run down, because I actually work in the service industry.

Tips are a nice thing to have when living in this industry, however I believe people are way too entitled about the tipping and you should have some gratitude for those that give you a nice couple extra dollars for your service.

Because the despite some of the costumers being assholes I am aware they aren't my sugar momma and I am not entitled to their money, tips are for when the costumer believes you have done an outstanding performance, done something extra to go out of your way for them, or if they are being generous.

I don't expect to be tipped for providing the basic service that I am contractually paid to do, the fact I am paid barely enough to live paycheck to paycheck isn't my costumers fault, but the fault of my company.

And feel that idea needs to be spread around, people are too entitled with tips because to be frank, fuck your 15% tip I and so many other people can't afford it.

Trickle down economics actually does work. Henry Ford single handedly created the middle class because he felt like paying his workers enough to be able to buy the cars they made. The problem is our elites are no longer good Christians like Henry Ford, but trans-national secular humanists who are just fine with raping the entire planet and making everyone live in one big crime ridden fucking slum.

I haven't been to a sit-down restaurant in over three years. I don't believe that's an appropriate risk for my family to take. We do picnics instead. Husband grabs takeout sometimes, and he'll tip what he feels is appropriate, so I haven't had to deal with tipping personally in a long time.

Like other non-Muricans say: if you can't pay your workers regular wage (and rely on tips for them to get by), then why do business?
Simple. To build up a relationship.

If I could do it myself, and you do it for me, and I tip you, You are more likely to want to X in the future. It's called random reinforcement and is a psychological tactic that is proven to produce better results. Set reinforcement, like what you Non-Mericans do, is basically why you are all so lazy, want 22 weeks vacation ever year, think health insurance is a right not a privilege, require 'Merica to be the world police, and are sad.
Just... sad.

If Ukraine just tipped its waitresses, Putin never would have tried anything.
At least in America we need to raise the min wage, tie it to inflation, and have it for all workers. Then be done with tipping.
Actually, we should do away with minimum wage entirely. Minimum wage CAUSES inflation.
It'd be a tough few years, but it's happened in other countries and wages actually don't go down, on average. Certain jobs drop through the floor, but most jobs actually increase as a result. So the overall net wage increase is better, while nonsense jobs that are worthless, but need to get done get priced according to the market.

Or do you honestly believe that someone flipping my burgers should be doing that as a CAREER for the rest of his life?

"Lazy, want 22 weeks vacation every year, think health insurance is a right not a privilege..."

I laugh at this pathetic mindset.

I don't know about other countries and tipping, so this applies only to the USA, but...

If tipping is allowed or not is generally decided by the company. Companies usually factor this into employee compensation if tipping is allowed, and can cut way below normal minimum wage for jobs that include tips.

So if you feel that the company or the employee are pushing you for tips, and you dislike that, blame the company, not the employee-- they're the ones deciding to try to pass the cost on to you or the employee indirectly, through tips-- doesn't really matter to whom the cost goes to the company, as long as it's not them.

I believe tips are a terrible element to organize an economy around, but I still tip basically anywhere it's expected, because that's part of the expected cost-- if the job wasn't tip-based, they'd pay their workers more, and thus the base cost would be higher.

Where I live, we don't have the tipping culture - when we go to restaurants, the waiter generally leaves an envelope to put the money in when collecting the dishes and it's the last time you see him - so I would have said I don't know what you're asking for if not for an incident from when I went to Canada for a vacation.

We went to a restaurant with our uncle who lives there, got seated, looked over the menu, and ordered a meal. That was the expected part. What was not expected was when the waiter literally waited for us to give a tip, and only the fact that our uncle knew the custom to tip every single time saved us the needless embarrassment.

And for Canadians, who know that custom, that might have only been normal. But for me personally, who was not used to giving tips at all, it looked like ridiculous entitlement. My first thought was, the gall someone needs to have to literally wait for you to give him a tip after you pay for your order?

Tha, I hope, answers the question if tipping culture is getting out of hand.

What bothers me the most is that since it is fashionable in the USA, it will soon be trendy in the rest of the world and in my country as well. I can already see myself in the future paying a tip to something like a bus driver or a phone application like the bank's platform.
iirc, tipping cultures has been a part of the US for wayyy too many decades for it to get thrown everywhere now, :blob_cookie:

Decent living wage… legally enforced.

California has a minimum wage of 15 US dollars which is higher than the Australian minimum wage and they’re complaining it’s not a decent living wage.

It’s cheaper to live in Australia than it is in California.
California? probably is actually cheaper to live in Australia than it is in California.

I know the tradition is old in the USA, which is what I was referring to, but since tipping is now in fashion, it is only a matter of time before it becomes as bad as it is there.

In my country tipping outside the hotel or tourist sector as guides does not exist. In a restaurant, there is no tipping, because the waiter's salary is based on what you pay for the food, whether it is a fast food restaurant or the most prestigious restaurant in the country.

Where I am from a tip is more a way of apologizing to the worker for being a nuisance to his normal work routine, throwing away a drink and having him clean up after himself. A person in a wheelchair for whom the guide must be helping them with the roads, trails and special transportation, and even then a tip is not expected. since we are already charging for a service and being a nice person should already be included on that price

America is a difficult system of corporate socialism where all rules are the government (namely the more socialist party) trying to give big companies more market share by making it more and more difficult to start and maintain your own business.
Are you sure it's a good term? I thought socialism is directed towards individual rather than corporation so it sounds like an oxymoron.
I'd say neoliberal: the government says it's a free market except they do insider trading
